So we have less than last year and every team has more. Got it.

OK, have you done your part as a fan to convince these kids that baton rouge is better than 350k and a shot at the NFL?
Idiot

Listen jerk, it is not my job to convince anyone to stay or go, it is the job of the coaching staff to help these young men make smart decisions when it comes to the rest of their lives.
Now go get your f*cking shine-box, Sport.

The issue is your insistence that you know for a fact that they have not done this. First you insist you'd like to see more of an effort made to keep them here...as if you know that the staff has done nothing of the sort. You then suggest that leaving is a bad decision, when you clearly have no way of knowing that short of a crystal fricking ball.
I'd appreciate those who feel the need to go on and on about this topic at least be honest about why it is they do so. If you guys would simply say that these guys leaving may result in a loss of quality on the field and therefore your enjoyment may decrease a bit which would result in you being angry, you'd get less grief.

I really think that it's outside sources telling them about the amount of money they can make. Missleading them to the max!

Perhaps you should try reading my post again, I never "insisted" that no effort has been made, on the contrary I stated that more effort needs to be made. I hope you now see the difference.
My point is a simple one, foregoing the opportunity to complete one's education in order to be a late round draft pick is, by any measure, not a smart bet.
Finally, as to your last point, I have no problem when a kid leaves for the riches of being a high draft pick and the financial security that comes with that, but to leave early and not complete your education, all with the hope that you are going to buck the odds and succeed in the NFL notwithstanding the fact that you are either a late round pick or an undrafted free agent is without question a stupid decision.
Go educate yourself, look at how many professional athletes are bankrupt 5 years after leaving their sport. The vast majority of these kids are not Drew Brees, most are out of the league in under 5 years. A college degree is a very good long term investment, and more needs to be done to make some of these kids understand that.

You don't get it do you? They're at school to prepare them for a job in their major, which is in all honesty is FOOTBALL. That's what they're preparing themselves to do. The way the new collective bargaining agreement is set up, they need to get that job as soon as possible, because if they do make it to their 2nd contract that's when they'll get paid.
In all honesty, would these early departures have that much of a better chance of making it to that 2nd contract if they stayed in one more year. Probably not.

I will take 350 grand for two or three years and come back and finish my degree with cash in the bank.

The obvious trend is that the more young NFL talent you have on your team the better you do.
Auburn and Missouri were exceptions but they came out of no where and just had good runs.
The fact that Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss, Tenn., Miss State, and Arkansas sent a combined 2 players and averaged 2 SEC wins should speak for itself. You DON'T WANT TO BE IN THAT GROUP. I promise.
With this group of recruits we have coming in (and the core we already have), I think that the main area we have been lacking (leadership) will be a much different story.

I do get it, and the facts are that very, very few will have long careers in the NFL, so the adults in their lives need to educate them on that harsh reality.

Floridas underclass men leaving hurts them more than the underclass men leaving from any of the other schools.
I would say manziel and Evans at aTm and ego/freak leaving are also big loses.

At the end of the day, it is the players' decision to stay or go, not the fan base or coaching staff. Face it, fans don't want the players to stay to be better, well-rounded individuals. They want them to stay so Saturday afternoon/night will be a little more enjoyable. No one knows of the struggles a lot of these guys face at home money wise, so who are we to say that they can't head out into the work force early.

I agree with you, I would like the marginal 4-7 round players to stay and finish getting their degree, but that will never happen with the NFL dangling $$ in front of these guys.
IMO, NFL team expansion plus the player attrition from that brutal 16 game regular season [plus four preseason] has changed collegiate football forever. Division 1-A schools like LSU are basically 'feeder' programs for the NFL. We taxpayers are left to pay for expensive football stadiums with retractable roofs, and subsidizing collegiate players on scholarships, only to see them 'bolt' for the NFL {some as sophomores].
Where is the NCAA? I thought they were there to stop this kind of stuff. But damn the school that steps out of line on recruiting violations, you'll see the NCAA gestapo descend like vultures on that program and pick it to shreds.
Dale Brown was right!

Care to explain? NFL draft stock = lack of quality?

we lose guys who may not even get drafted, and if they do, they are late round picks.
According to CBS Sports Draft Projections, all early entrants are projected in the first 3 rounds with the exception of Turner.

What do you think the earning potential for a General Studies degree with a sub 3.3 GPA is as compared to one year at $400K? The average starting salary of an attorney in Louisiana is between $50-60K/year.
It's been said 1000 times on this board...it's the new CBA.
Early Entrants
2009-49
2010-53
2011-56
New CBA
2012-65
2013-73
2014-96 Thats a 70% increase from the year before.

This may be one of the stupidest arguments on the rant. Explain how it is Les' fault that these kids are deciding to leave early? What is Les supposed to do differently to keep these kids on campus?

LOSER: Players who get bad advice
Every year, players leave early who have absolutely no business leaving early. A year ago, of the 73 players declaring for the draft, 21 weren't selected. Sometimes, players leave because they're asked to leave. Others are flunking out academically and don't really have a choice. But more times than not, there's somebody in their ear telling them that they need to go get paid, and the sad truth is that very few of them ever get paid to play football and have no degree to fall back on.
