Engineers are making a whole lot more than that coming out of school. I hire about 40 per year. I just interviewed one who has a summer internship for $45/hour, and the oil company is paying him an additional stipend for living expenses

It's not first round draft choice money, but if he has a career ending injury he'll be glad to have that kind of money waiting.
