if you took 25 per year, and had no attrition and no redshirts, then you'd have to take 10 your 4th year. So, yes, they are related.

Every guy that leaves early for the NFL reduces that 85 count heading into next season.

That wasn't a shot at you. I was laughing at all the "85" posters.

Oh I know. I just quoted that to simplify it, every thread I realize fewer and fewer people know the ins and outs.

Oh, I get the logic, but it's still not likely we take 25, and "85" isn't the reason.

I posted this in another thread and I think we have a shot at filling 25 with great players. Yes we only have a puncher's chance on some but here is what I think. Assuming we lose Clark we need 8.
1. Kelly, Jr-good shot
2. Dupre-great shot
3. Valentine-good shot
4. Speaks-good shot
5. Carter-tough pull but there is a shot. Fits Haley's m.o. of pulling big out of stater based on LSU rep and his relationship with recruit.
6. Jackson-good shot
7. Young-tough pull by all recent accounts and we slow played him so I think we have ground to make up but even after 1/2 I do not think we are a long shot on any LA kid that we get to visit.
8. Porter-better shot than people think. Lost his Texas recruiter and he is visiting and we have a good shot to get him and Dupre.

That leaves, Rushing, Granier, Olaka, M. McDowell, Leialaimatafou all long shots for one reason or another to fill in any that we miss up there. Sure some of these are longshots, but they all have visited or will visit with the exception of Lealaimatafou who has an offer but no visit confirmed yet. Granier is interesting because although he may not have an offer, he is visiting and a new OL coach may evaluate him differently that our old coach.

I don't have all the numbers on the 85 and how they look after the seniors on scholarship departing (including Blue) and the early entrants to the NFL, but....

I suspect it is significant enough after the last 2 years to warrant taking 25 both this year and next year. My point is, if LSU looks in good shape to offer 25 in both Feb 2014 and Feb 2015 and stay within the limits, then they'd be silly not to go ahead and take the full 25 this year.

I'm also assuming that those last few guys would be pretty decent 3-star players (projects or not), and I have no doubt they would be.

Hey, can we not do this? LSU didn't slow play Young-unless him not returning our calls is us slow playing him.

I think we get 5 of your first 8, but I am relying on consensus recruitnik thought, admittedly.

Getting 3 more decent prospects at that point would not be hard.

And it also depends on who we get in those top 8. E.g., if we miss on Malachi (yikes!) we may take both Rushing and Holland/Porter.

Either way, I'd be surprised if we aren't sitting at 25 by end of Feb.

85 not an issue. Right now with all recruits commiteed we stand at 84. So if we get to 25 in this class we need to lose 6. In the 84 I included Bolden, Fobbs, Neighbors, Williams, Maclin, Rivers, Mickey Johnson, Sandolph, Edinburgh, Phillips, and Raymond as scholarship players. Many of these have been rumored to be leaving but no confirmation of them so I included them in the 85. As you can see, it will be easy to clear room to get a full 25 players in if we want to.

Semantics, he did not return our calls because we did not offer him as early as we did others and he started looking elsewhere. No blame on either side, he blew up his senior year and now we want him bad. Fact of life and recruiting

OK. So we should offer every junior in La in case they blow up.

The dude has been very open with the staff that he wants to leave the state. I really hope we land him, but at this point I don't think hes ours.

At least two from this list definitely wont be playing football in Tiger Stadium this year. Trust me on this. Take Neighbors off your list, as he will be.

Don't know how you got that out of my post but no we should not. As I said, no blame on either side. Fact is we offered and accepted Alexander's commitment long before we even offered Young because we wanted to see more of Young. That is why we have ground to make up. He showed up big time and I agree with you. I hope we get him but he is not ours now. But we made a big impression when he unofficially visited earlier and I hope we can close the deal when he visits officially. Also, before you read more words into my post, I do not criticize the staff in any way for offering Alexander earlier and am excited about his potential.

Agree just since he was not scholarship originally, there is always the chance he could lose it if needed. Will not be needed but I still include this as a possiblity.

I don't care about the 85. We can take 25 and make it work. We always do.

I really think we missed on so many of our big targets that we won't fill this class. I think we end up with 20-23 total.
Unless of course we go crazy and offer some longsnapper or three or four kickers no one has heard of.

And pizza, I don't think we have as good a shot with all the guys you listed. I think we maybe land 5 of those.

frankly, LSU almost put too many of it's eggs in too few baskets this year.

To get 19-22 of the quality kids they have committed after flirting with that is a pretty good job (kind of a recovery).

I predict that we will look back on that 2013 class and this class and think WOW. If we only knew.
