TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The shakeup on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama will continue as Greg Brown is expected to step down as defensive backs coach to clear the way for Kevin Steele to transition from his role as director of player personnel to an on-field position coaching linebackers, sources told ESPN.
Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart will shift from coaching linebackers to the secondary to make way for Steele's move. Steele, according to ESPN, was offered the Louisville defensive coordinator job but turned it down to remain with Saban in Tuscaloosa.
The latest staff shakeup comes on the heels of Saban hiring Lane Kiffin as offensive coordinator and Bo Davis as defensive line coach. Doug Nussmeier left after two seasons to lead Michigan's offense and Chris Rumph left after three seasons to coach Texas' defensive line.

So he turned down a DC job to be a LB coach?

Oh yeh, Gus all in his head.

I think we are seeing Saban push the reset button and refocus the organization on his way of doing things. Greg Brown is a well-traveled, well-respected DB coach. Getting rid of him means he wasn't doing things the Saban way, and he had to go.

This is getting crazy now.

Nicky sure is putting together a nice staff for Kirby to take over when Sabes leaves for the Browns

Right state, wrong head coach.

Nah, I don't think Saban would take the Bengals DC job

changing the whole staff is saban's way of taking a new job and trying to reinvigorate himself.

That, or he wasn't happy with the performance of the coaches last year.
One of the two though.

So will Bama hire a DB coach? Or just let Smart have them?
Posted on 1/15/14 at 1:26 pm to bwallcubfan
Smart to DB's, Kevin Steele to LB's.

Smart is moving back there.

Gotta respect Saban. Something isn't working, shake it up.
Though I think he gave his program the death knell with the Kiffin hire, I respect his willingness to shake things up.

This is so stupid. They were dominant last year and if a miracle fluke FG return doesn't happen they're sitting on 3 in a row. Hardly justification for an entire program shake up.
