So, people ask him to be a jerk and a cry-baby and to cheat and pay players and to be entitled?
Who hires an OC who can't do anything but devise an offense and can't deal with others on a basic level?
Will he not recruit?
I'm all for giving people 5th chances, but it seems like Saban could have hired anyone and he picks a guy who has been a complete disaster everywhere he has been. I guess that how you handle yourself doesn't matter. You'll just get another job. Nice life lesson to his players who he seems to be having problems with entitlement attitudes settling in.

Saban knows a helluva lot more about football than anyone around here.
Granted, I wasn't around these parts during Kiffin's last SEC sojourn (I know there's personal backstory where he's concerned); but the responses on this board since the announcement of his hiring at Bama have been ree-dic-u-lous.
Bottom line: If I'm an Alabama fan and Saban thought it best to hire Betty White, I'm not questioning it.

Personally, I think saban just wanted someone that he could control more easily. Kiffin is so desperate for relevance right now that he's willing to be anybody's bitch.
Agree with this. And you know glamor boy would try to get a media gig before he'd take 5 steps down like an Arky State HC job or something. This is his opportunity to try and prove something because he wants another shot at a HC opp at another big program at some point.

You want this to be a bad hire. I get that. So do all the other fanbases. It is to be expected. But i have noticed that he gets zero credit for his OC job in 05 and 06 I think. Not a big stats guy, but saw that the offense improved while he was the OC at USC. He sucked as a head coach. Alabama did not hire him to be the head coach.
He will not be talking to the media, which is normal for a Nick Saban team. And from what I have read he will not be the recruiting cordinator.
So what part is a bad hire?

Trust me if things go south on the offensive side of the ball Kiffin will be the first one thrown under the bus by Saban. I would not be thrilled by this hire at all to much trouble has followed this cat around no matter where he has been. But hey as a Tiger fan I love it

Recruiting, and staying out of trouble?
Kiffin never had an issue with recruiting.

Proof that you are intellectually challenged.

Better check again. 05 was a good year due to having Chows leftovers. When it was Kiffens show in 06 they put up the worst numbers of the Pete Caroll era. Sooooooooooo, check those stats.

Not one snap yet and Saban already has to explain himself.

Not really. The gumps immediately jumped to his defense and embraced Kiffy with open arms.
It seems more like Saban is trying to explain the hire to himself.

Yeah. Cause coaches who have been fired before can never be good coaches anywhere else. Fired head coaches can never make good coordinators. Cough:Cam Cameron:Cough

I'm just thankful as heck that Saban didn't hire Petrino as his OC.
The world would have been fricked if that had happened ... seriously. Bama would have been unbeatable.
At the same time, honestly, Saban is running his program like a business - and the Kiffin hire was strictly a business decision. I've seen one or two men in the corporate world make similar hires in their field of industry - it usually results in a very positive and profitable early return, but bites them in the arse in the long run.
So, knowing Saban is not stupid, I can only conclude that IMHO he's good for a few more years at Bama then he is bailing, probably retiring, and whatever the results of this Kiffin hire may be, his hands will be clean of it and he'll somehow exercise plausible deniability.

It is a bad hire. It doesn't matter what I want. Lane Kiffen comes with a ton of baggage and has been a disaster everywhere he has gone. Look at how USC fired him. They were done with him. Everyone has been like that. He lies, cheats, and distorts reality to benefit himself. Al Davis was right about the guy and everywhere he has been has proven that.
When you hire a guy with that track record, it is a bad hire. When you put him in the spotlight at Alabama, it is a bad hire. Can he perform well? Yes. It is possible. But, it is still a bad hire.
How much positive publicity has Alabama gotten out of this? What, is Kiffen going to help them finally go undefeated? They did that without him. Win a National Championship? They did it without him. There are lots of OCs who could come in with a bunch of 5 stars and build a good offense. Do they need him for recruiting? No. They had #1 classes without him.
Kiffen is a bad hire because his baggage is so heavy that he can only bring you down. Their offense was not the problem this past year. They averaged over 30 ppg in their 2 losses but gave up almost 39 ppg in those games. Their problem is their defense and how it is structured and that all rests on Saban's shoulders. So, to fix things, he hires Lane Kiffen.
It is a horrible hire and a dumb move. Saban needs to figure out how to stop a high powered offense before he thinks that Kiffen will be change they need.
Bad hire.

You are comparing Cam Cameron to Lane Kiffen?
Another gump idiot in here today.

This is hilarious, because it's the exact same shite that was spewed all over this board last offseason. Now the gumps are taking it personal and it is
