Someone informed me that public schools no longer teach this in their curriculum.. Is this true? Mine both go to private school, but I find this hard to believe. I know a lot of people don't use it anymore.

My kid is in 2nd grade, in public school, in Alabama and can write cursive. If they're teaching it to 2nd graders in Alabama of all places....I would think they're doing so elsewhere too.

Good. Too much time and effort wasted on something that the kids will not use once they enter Jr. High. It's pointless.

Should be taught as a part of Art maybe but other than that really has no use today.

Nature of the beast. Just like calligraphy and fancy script were quite popular around the time the declaration of independence was written, that too has died. With this being the digital age, I am not sure why we need various forms of written text.

You and Rachel Jeantel think alike.

A lot of private schools have stopped teaching it as well. It's a dying practice. 99% of everything these kids will express will be in digital/typed format. There is no need for cursive.

This is exactly what I was wondering. Are we going to be living in a world where soon people no longer have signatures? How will that work when they do things like write a check or sign a contract?

Yes. I tried to write in cursive recently and my hand was killing me after a couple of paragraphs.

Really? I learned to write both ways as a kid and can just as easily write one way or the other depending on the situation. It's not that difficult as some are making it out to be.

It's not a matter of difficulty. It's just completely useless. It's like bragging that you have the most awesome 8-track in the neighborhood.
