Trust me on this. Saban would not have turned down the package that the boosters put together. Also, Sexton was dealing with the boosters long after Saban got his raise & extension. And I mean up until it was known that Strong would be the man.
You can thank President Powers mostly. He was never a Saban man, and may have risked his career over this move. Time will tell.
Again, a true example of Texas arrogance. First off, that package would've had to break the $15 mil mark to even get out of Bama's reach ($10 mil sure wouldn't have done it).
Secondly if money were the only factor in a coach taking the job, then Fisher(the fact that they said he had a fickle or whatever personality is ridiculous), Malzahn, or Briles would be in Austin instead of Strong.
Lastly, you can't believe that there was a contract sitting on Saban's desk the past couple of weeks. Someone other than Powers or Patterson would've had to put it in Sexton's hands since by your own admission, neither of them wanted Saban (which is ridiculous in itself). And since they are the only ones with the authority to make the hire, then even if a booster gave Sexton a contract, that contract wouldn't have been worth the paper it was written on. I heard Bohls on Finebaum talking about this, but I would bet my house that his source is the same as every other Texas beat writer/website mod/insider's source...an out of their mind, arrogant booster. Because you know dang good and well that Powers and Patterson wouldn't have told anyone that they, nor someone else (who would've went behind their backs) gave Sexton a contract.
Again, I don't know if there is a more arrogant set of boosters/fanbase out there than Texas. It all boils down to the fact that if they could have gotten a better coach than Strong, then they would have. They had plenty of time to get who they wanted. All of the potential big time hires got a front row seat to the crazy political mess going on behind the scenes at UT, and I guarantee you that they wanted no part of it.

There isn't. Try living in the same state as them.

You are at a disadvantage because you don't have all the information that I do. Trying my best not to be condescending, but one donor was ready to put up a $17 mil real estate deal for Saban. That doesn't include his salary. And there were others ready to jump on board. The dysfunction at Texas is why Saban is still at Bama. Doesn't really matter if you believe me or not - its all academic now.
