If my team can't get an inch on 3 plays thats more embarrassing than giving up a 1:20 TD drive wouldn't you say?

FSU only had 2 and they are blowing 1 before 1st down.
Im pressing my advantage of my offense which I trust more than my defense
Oh and I also have the #1 rushing offense in the country and already have 200+ yards rushing at this point

Did i ever say anything about "playing for your job"? No. Just saying that if you make that decision and run the clock out then kick a field to send it into OT and not attempt to get in the endzone, then kick a FG to send it into OT, and lose in OT. Thats a call that could get you fired.
You didnt think that Auburn was trying to run the clock down?? They were. Mason just broke off a 37 yard TD. And in that moment, after FSU had a huge kick return and the momentum, i doubt anybody on that team was thinking or wanting Mason to fall down so they could run some more clock off. Just happened that he scored on a 37 yard run.

That's also three chances to fumble, three chances to be penalized for holding, false start, illegal motion...
Score and play defense.

a fumble or a penalty could happen.
just get the six.
if the Auburn DB's had not collided and let the FSU WR loose when they got the ball back, you probably have no reason to even ask this.

Auburn isn't a powering running team. Scoring at the goal line is much tougher for their style offense than from the +5.

So let me see if I understand your reasoning. You take a knee inside to 1 yard line so not to score.
FSU calls a time out, which leaves him with one. It's now 1st and goal, so you kneel and FSU burns their last time out. You now have 3 plays to score.
Too many things can happen to keep you out of th endzone. Take the score an play defense.

The lat thing going through Mason's mind was falling down at the one. It shard to process all that while playing the game. Just look back the giants-pats Super Bowl when Bradshaw, I think, tried to do it but it was too late

The only reason he would have to take a knee would be if they already had the lead.

No, worst case is you miss the field goal.
Worst case is you score and give the ball to Jameis Winston with 1:19 to go.

Now this I've seen quite a bit in the NFL. Guy breaks a big run and then falls down after getting the first so they can kneel it out

You're right it does happen a lot in the NFL - usually only when a FG wins it though.

I said the same thing when it happened. The returned kickoff was a godsend because it gave them time to work. Their hurry up did use enough time. The needed to down the ball at the 1 and run the clock down.

absolutely would have been the right call. you play to win the game, that means putting your team in the best position to win. FSU had the momentum and the auburn defense was worn out. leaving that much time on the clock killed auburn. if he goes down at the one, at best, they leave fsu with no timeouts and about 30 seconds to go down the field for the score. at worst, they kick a fg and go to overtime.

Yeah I've never seen anyone fumble or miss a chip shot fg around the goal line. Especially not auburn....

But if the field goal only ties, then I wouldn't do it, like in last night's situation.

Only on the MSB would people expect a running back, after breaking 4 tackles on a miraculous run, to simply fall down at the 1 yard line down 3 with the national title on the line.
