If I may ask how old are you? Did they catch it early?
I'm 42 and though they think they caught it early, it is located very close to the lymph nodes in my left arm. That, along with the fact that I have a long history of breast cancer in my family and tested positive for the genetic factor, makes them want to do a double mastectomy with reconstruction. I suppose that's what this first surgical appt is for..to discuss the options. But I was told that the decision has to be made fast bc they want to act on it fast bc of the possibility of metastasis to other organs. They just found the lump last week.

Do they know the biology of your tumor ? My mom was diagnosed in the fall of 2011 was triple positive node positive and opted for the double mastectomy , she was negative for the gene but both her mom and sister had bc as well. Never stop asking questions remember you are you best advocate.
Prayers sent.

My Mom was 40 when she passed it was discovered a few years before. My prayers are with you. Mom passed in 1974 so medicine has advanced so much its ridiculous. Some of the treatments she took are not even done anymore because they discovered they were ineffective.
