Career Interceptions & Passes Defended
LaRon Landry - 12 & 40
Craig Steltz - 11 & 34

And he played the run just as good as those other guys.
Steltz was physical, and great against the run, but he wasn't in the same class as Landry in terms of speed. LL had incredible range to make plays all over the field, and he was lightning-fast closing on ballcarriers. Landry was also more explosive on contact.

In 2006, Landry hurt four different Alabama players in a single game.

I think Landry was probably a better safety though Jones was fantastic. Jones also returned punts and (oh by the way) helped us win a national championship in baseball. So if your criterion is strictly safety play, probably Landry. If you go by impact on LSU sports generally, you have to go with Jones. I think Eric Reid needs mention as well. I'll never forget his interception against Alabama at the goal line where he just took the ball away from Williams. LINK

Steltz's hit on bama wr in 07 to ice game was epic.
Dude got rocked.
All three of these guys plus Eric Reid are all time LSU Tiger greats.

Man, that is a really tough question to answer.
All three of those guys were absolutely special, and I don't know that I could pic a favorite.
Gun to my head, I'm going chad jones, but again, all beloved/all special.

Landry was on another level than all. Steltz had some great stats and big games. Chad Jones was the most overrated LSU player besides Brad Wing. Fact.

Well, you can go back to YOUR PREMISE:

I'm not arguing that Landry had better ball skills at LSU. But clearly your statement is not true, and the stats show that.

In comparison, I'll give Steltz the edge in ball skills, especially considering his return yardage on interceptions.
I think Landry could've been better in this area than he was, but a lot of it was about his mentality, and I don't know how much you want to go messing with that.

Steltz for me as he just played like an insane man when on the field.

Chad Jones. The goal line stand says it all.
