"The report in the Chinese language newspaper said the entire process was supervised by the supreme leader in North Korea, along with 300 senior officials - a clear warning against anyone challenging Kim's leadership."
I'm guessing each one of those 300 officials was thinking, "If I was the rest of you guys, I'd be worried right about now." In scenarios like this, everyone thinks they are one of the favored ones. The strategy may be to keep those senior officials "scared straight" - but the mentality of such officials in governments like that is "You're fricked, because you're on the bad list, but I'll be fine, because I'm on the good list."
