The writer meant that as an insult.

Playa is beach in Spanish. How does this fit here at all? Doesn't.

That is exactly how I read the comment. I thought, "We don't have Florida beaches down here." Then I slowly figured out that the upper Midwesterner was attempting a slang of "player," meaning one who can play.

The writer may be picking up on the fact that our young people tend to work harder to hone their skills. They do realize that every player on LSU's roster has worked and trained their butts off to be good, don't they?

Our Southern so called "gifted athletes" receive their "gifts" by putting in thousands of hours of hard physical and mental work. Do they not understand this?

Understand and appreciate the sentiment, but horribly written. Who is his target audience? People from Iowa may have trouble understanding all the slanguage.

So the point of the article is reasons why Iowa sucks and LSU gets great players.

If I was an elite player, I wouldnt go there.

If I was recruiting an elite player and he was considering Iowa, I would show him that article and ask "What are you thinking?"

PLAYA!
