Why would they have to reimburse for the schools? People in the St George area have been paying taxes for schools all along. It's like being charges twice for them.

They wouldn't have to pay 100% of the costs of the new schools that were recently built. But the bond issue that was voted on to fund the new school buildings still has to be repaid and there would be some sort of reimbursement formula agreed to, just like Central. I don't remember the details of the agreement with Central but I remember they had to pass a "temporary" property tax just to handle the property transfer costs.

You just don't hear the "leaders" like Bodi White talk very much about those issues. Of course, he's one of the biggest con men in the legislature so that doesn't surprise me.

He led the effort a few years ago to triple legislator's pay right after they were re-elected for 4 years. Thankfully, Jindal vetoed it.

White also tried to pass a bill increasing the amount lobbyists could spend buying legislators' meals. He said the $50/meal limit was too low because "you can't get a decent meal in Baton Rouge for $50."

White is in real estate and there is no doubt in my mind he has some real estate he wants to either sell to the new city or new school system or which he believes will appreciate in value if a new city happens. He is always 100% about his own pocketbook.

Or, he may just be trying to increase his taxpayer paid retirement benefits. Legislators are in the La State Employees Retirement System and elected city officials (he thinks he can be elected mayor of the new city) are in the Municipal Employees Retirement System. He can potentially double his retirement benefits.
