Just got a brand new cast iron pot w/ enamel and the rim of the pot and lid do not seem to be coated. Does that part need to be oiled like a normal cast iron? Whats the best method for cleaning?

Are you sure it's not matte coated with black enamel?

My Le Creuset is like that. I just use soap and water and give the exposed iron time enough to dry thoroughly before putting the lid on.

I have one also, after washing and drying just rub around the rim with a little oil like you would a cast iron pot/skillet.

I don't do anything special to the rim and it hasn't had any problems

I got a 6qt Martha Stewart enamel pot for Christmas. Pretty pumped, as I've wanted an enameled pot for a while
Fwiw, the instructions mention to rub a light coat of oil on the exposed areas like you mentioned ( mine has the same exposed parts on the rims of the pot and lid)
