Is their Tight End. We could stop Arkansas's TE. And for some reason we seemed to have a hard time keying TEs all season. Bama's freshman TE Howard consistently got open. Iowa's TE is a two time All-Big Ten performer.

I don't think Iowa will keep up with LSU's scoring in this game.

I hope you are right. It all depends on Jennings. Iowa has a pretty good defense. We have to be able to pass the ball to allow Hill and company running room.

3rd down defense is where Iowa's TE could really hurt us. Iowa is basically a 3 yards and a cloud of dust type team. If they get in 3rd and short situations, they will definite look to the big TE.

I think they better watch our TEs as well. I've noticed that AJ really likes to throw to that TE...... And they have no film to look at besides us throw exclusively to OB and JL If we call this game like we should I don't think many teams can stop LSU, time to break some tendencies dammit! I don't think I've seen us do any PA near the goal line and the one time I did see it, it worked! Anyway I hope we do some diff things in this game! Should be a good game!

That big RB will be a challenger for our LBers.

There was a thread on this board a few weeks back that centered upon Iowa playing a lot in three TE sets - both run and pass - and the challenge it would present LSU.

CJF is one big dude and has done a great job blocking and a solid job catching with those Hamburger Helper hands - he does a nice job using his body to to gain leverage against shorter defenders in short to medium routes. He;s tough to jam ob the LOS.

Iowa will also slip into a one back, 2 TE (one offset, one on LOS) and 2 WR formation and run or pass out of that. They wait for a look and then slip Jake Duzey (#2/3 TE, 6'4 245lb) out into the flat.

Below is a link to the aforementioned formation and shows what Iowa can do with play-action and the that formation (Iowa ran this on 1st and 20 from the OSU 15 with 3:55 remaining in the 3Q). Duzey slips past the DE (#8 - completely out of the play) and outruns CB #26 for an 85yd TD to knot the game @ 24-24 heading into the 4Q in Columbus.

Duzey

Iowa isn't a sexy team, but they tend to pick their spots well between the constant pounding and grinding with the ground game.

Didn't he only have one catch? Granted it was for 52 yards, but I don't think that constitutes continuously getting open.

That big play by Alabama was memorable. I remember being puzzled as I watched...how could they make it look so easy. So, it was probably a coverage break down. 1 play. Has that 1 play been responsible for the 'reputation' I see here about LB's in coverage? Is it a fair assessment?

He does look like a handful at 6'-7" and with pretty decent hands. He had 26 catches this season, and led the team with 6 Receiving TDs.

You are correct. Howard only had one catch. The Arkansas game was the most memorable game in which the TE was virtual open on every play in the redzone.
