Why is Speedy listed as a receiver instead of an athlete?

I've been watching tape on him and from the most part I've seen him at either quarter back or some running back. I have seem him play receiver but it seems that he's been more of an athlete then an actual receiver.

Because ...
A) He will not play QB in college
and
B) He will not play RB in college
that leaves
C) He will play WR in college
I hope this helps you out

During his 7v7 tournaments he lined up as receiver. It's his natural projected position. While he could be a solid defensive back, he is more suited skill wise as a wide out. He isn't built to last as a rb, and many high schools play their best athlete at the qb position. More touches, more play break downs, so much more of an in game advantage at the high school level.
Same reason Ronald Martin, Shepard, Reuben randle, etc. played qb in high school. More of a read option, or wild cat style than pro style. Think auburn a offense or Oregon vs. Alabama or lsu

Because he will be a receiver? Jesus christ

He actually has been listed as an athlete at some point, but like the others said, he projects as an (elite) slot WR so he's listed as a WR.

Because most ATH end up as a WR/Returner...

Well that is just factually inaccurate

Isn't there a good chance that Speedy could also be returning punts and kick-offs? Seems like he could be a potential game changer in this area.

The thread topic might just be the product of a recruiting troll trying to mess with LSU fans and recruits.

He is projected to play WR. Early Doucet was the same way.

I could see us lining up as a rb in some formations. He did that some in hs.

When I watched the Edna Karr-EJ game at the dome I thought that Noil reminded me a lot of Doucet, maybe a little faster.

every camp he went to, he worked out at wide receiver.....and balled

For the same reason Ruben Randall and Early Doucet were listed as receivers.

Michael Clayton was listed as a WR on recruiting list.
He was a running QB. He was a monstrous DB and special teams player. He only played WR situationally and in All Star games.
Could he have been listed as an ATH? Sure. However, it would have been silly.
As is listing Speedy at ATH, which would make sense only if there was more than an infinitesimal chance he would play DB or RB (and there isn't).

Because he's gonna be a WR in college, and a damn good one at that.

He really would have been an awesome Safety.
