Some more good publicity for the Tigers. ESPN insider access required.

Coach Johnny Jones, in his second season at LSU, has done a tremendous job of bringing high-level talent to the Bayou. The Tigers' front line is headlined by Johnny O'Bryant III, a big-bodied, true back-to-the-basket player. He's got a soft touch on his jump hook and is a powerful finisher around the rim. Jones has brought in two excellent forwards to play alongside O'Bryant. One is Jordan Mickey, who is not being talked about enough on the national stage as one of the best freshmen in the country. Mickey is super athletic and was known early on more for his defense (3.6 blocks a game). But his contributions on offense (13.7 points per game) have helped the Tigers get off to a great start. Jarell Martin is another freshman who is very talented and has a tremendous skill set. Martin can play either forward spot and has range to the 3-point line. With these guys up front, LSU will be in the upper half of the SEC and compete for a berth in the NCAA tournament.

Dey be recognizing
ETA: it really is ridiculous how Mickey has gotten zero recognition so far. Hopefully that'll change in the next couple months when we go on our run.

Freshman tracker on ESPN Insider has given him high praise since pretty early on, but you don't hear much outside of that source. It'll come. I hope it stays cool for a while so he doesn't get a big head and 1Ndone us

You're right, hopefully that will be the case. If we can have Mickey and Martin together for 2 years...watch out, SEC.

I may be off base, but I don't think Mickey has the post game yet to go to the NBA & that's what he's missing in order to have a chance for a roster spot. Of course, his post moves will get better as the season progresses, but I'm not sure he'll be ready for the next draft. I think we keep both star forwards for one more season.

Neither did Tyrus Thomas...
The NBA game has a special spot for people like Jordan Mickey. They don't need to be the focus of the offense, but they need to rebound, defend, and receive ally-oops. As long as they bring excitement to the team, there will be a place for these lanky, high flying 4s.

Good point. I'm still not sold on him as a one n' done at this point though. Defensively, he still has some work to do. He's a great shot-blocker, and I think that has helped him recover from some poor positioning. I really want him for one more year though Let Robinson & Epps learn from Mickey & Martin.

If Martin and Mickey both return, and JOB is the only one to leave early plus the two seniors. Then who is the odd man out with 4 coming in and only 3 spots available .

I suspect Bridgewater will probably move on.

Depending on how Mickey wants to play it, he could be 1yr to 4yrs. He won't get the serious PT in NBA if he leaves early. He still has some growing up to do, so staying in school could help him get some work in. Or he can go get paid and work in the gym. May not get as much in-game PT but can still put in the work.
He will be successful at next level IMO no matter what. I hope he stays here in BR a few years though.
