I'm just having a hard time seeing the logic of a coach who has apparently been working back channels to leave for Texas even before the regular season staying on to coach the bowl game and THEN leave

The whole "middle finger" aspect of it is why waiting until January 3rd makes no sense. Unless Saban has all this pent up frustration with Alabama that he has kept hidden and wants to stick it to us waiting to leave isn't logical. I'd be less suprised if Saban pulled an Urban Meyer after the bowl game and "retired" than I would if he waited until January to leave for Texas.
