Mack is now gone and there is no reason to delay an announcement especially from Saban's standpoint.

Maybe it is more about waiting until after Texas's bowl game rather than after another team's bowl game?

Texas is more than likely going to lose. If someone is brought in as a homerun hire, then getting shite stomped by Oregon, in the state of Texas, would not be the best way to introduce that person.

new coaches virtually never coach the bowl game. They cannot implement their own schemes or know the talent to properly make decisions.

Take UDub right now. Tua is coaching their bowl game this week even though Peterson was announced last week. Or USC. Clay Helton is the interim coach for the interim coach despite Sark taking over a while ago. It's not a reason to delay a hire.

Didn't say it was a good reason, just a possible reason.

Decent point. I could see a situation where they believe announcing a homerun hire after the inevitable curb stomping by Oregon would help the image of the football program. Counter bad publicity with great publicity.

sure, but if it's a homerun hire people aren't going to give a flying frick about the Alamo Bowl. Honestly no one does anyway.

For those determined that a hire has already been made and they are waiting, have you not been paying attention? They put together a committee, they are vetting candidates, and Patterson is probably talking to a few. When they get close, word will get out and we'll all know because their AD leaks like the Titanic

I haven't really argued either way. But if they already have someone hired, maybe Mack has them by the balls and asked them not to announce it until he was done with the season.

There are a lot of possibilities and none of us really know what is going on. I'm a fairly neutral observer, whereas you are likely a little biased when it comes to Texas.

I'm really not sure what bias has to do with this. I honestly don't know why people want so badly to believe a hire has already been made. The idea itself defies logic on about 11 levels and really doesn't change anything in regards to who they hire.

I think you may be looking for an explanation that puts Texas in the most negative light possible.

If an AD has to put together a committee to hire a coach, what does that say about him as a leader?

I fail to see how it puts Texas in a negative light. The negative light was the clown show last week. What's going on now is SOP

I don't see how one way is more negative than the other.

Luckily us Aggies are just as much spectators as the rest of the SEC. We have no idea who will succeed or fail.

Personally I didn't want Nick Saban because that would partially legitimize the RRR, the Big 12 and things associated with Texas. No other coach has the ability to do that, so I don't care who they chose.

Which is exactly the reason many folks feel Texas may well circle back around for another run at CNS.

It's a cya on pattersons part. He has only been around a few weeks and this hire will define his success or failure for years to come. If he hires somebody and they shite the bed he is done. The committee would give him a little bit of leeway to say all these people agreed with him.

As far as waiting to announce a coach until January it might have to do with giving Mack Brown his swan song go out game against Oregon with no other distractions.

One other thing I heard on Austin radio that made me laugh my arse off today.

The host were saying win or lose against Oregon the team may carry Mack off on their shoulders. How embarrassing would it be if they carry Mack out of the alamo dome on there shoulders as he got his butt kicked by Oregon.

I thought he was hired to make it easier to get rid of Brown and hire the next coach?

He was hired to get rid of Brown and move Texas forward for sure. But, the guy hasn't even had time to meet all the athletic department, implement any of his plans, evaluate what is going on and he is asked to make a career defining decision. Putting a committee together to back your decision is one way to cover your arse with the big money donors.

What if you were hired by the largest company in whatever market and the next day asked to make a 10 year decision that will completely determine your success or failure of your new job and what every shareholder thought about you forever.

Wouldn't you maybe think about putting together a group of employees that know the company to help you make that decision? Asking for others to help is not weakness just foresight. I don't think you would be a very good leader if your willing to make that decision on your own with no knowledge of the company.

The only problem I have with the committee is no football people were included.

This. An AD needs to be able to hire a coach on his own. I get having a committee to hire an AD, but one of the biggest jobs of an AD is hiring coaches.
