He looks so much like Jarvis Landry in that video. Even the big hits on kickoff coverage.

With all of the upside the WR recruits in this class have (even though Quille did not come home) - Quinn is the most physically ready to play and compete right now. That's obvious from the film. That's obvious from the stats.

He could be a little taller, but he plays taller - at least in HS. But, he has a solid frame for the position and near world class speed at that size. I'm having a tough time NOT being optimistic about the kid.

While he is only a shade over 6 ft tall, one comment that comes up frequently from college coaches is his "catching radius". He catches alot of balls thrown in his vicinity that even taller receivers do not catch. He has a knack for accelerating underneath balls that appear to be over-thrown or that others have to lay out for. These same qualities made him a very good centerfielder in baseball. He plays tall as you say because of this ability.

I think there is a common misconception that he put up those numbers because Barbe throws it to him all the time. Those that have seen the games know this is not true, and that he simply makes the most out of the times they target him. He had a very accurate throwing quarterback that made this possible, as it got very difficult at times with all of the extra defensive attention.

That's where the comparisons to Landry keep coming back around - there's a kid between 5'11 1/2" and no taller than 6' and change - and around 200 pounds. Landry seems to make catches that a 6'2" or 6'3" receiver might have trouble with. Also, most of us remember how physical he was as a freshman on special teams - played heavier than his likely 190 pounds at the time would have suggested.

Quinn may be a little faster in a straight line - and, of course, will have to prove himself at the next level - but the rest of the film looks a lot like Landry's style.

I think the Landry comparisons are legit...with the one caveat that Landry plays like he has an enormous chip on his shoulder and just plays angry / violently. Landry reminds me of Hines Ward out there laying the wood to people...just being more aggressive than anyone on the field.

That is what sets Landry apart from the rest of the WR in college football. I don't see that level of attitude from Quinn yet...not saying he doesn't have that in him, but just that it is what makes Landry..Landry.

On a side note, how fun would it have been to watch the Honeybadger play against Landry on Saturdays. Watching these two battle on each play would have been fun to watch.

I think this is a very fair assessment. I think you are right, Trey does not play angry a la Jarvis. He has shown that he can be physical (watch ALL of his film), but he will always be a kid that plays with alot of respect for others and for the integrity of the game. I think he will also always try to make you miss first and make the big play before trying to be physical. But I can tell you that he DOES play with the huge chip on his shoulder. He has spent a few years breaking down certain stereotypes and proving himself on the field and in camps. Instead of taking it out on the opposition physically, he tries to do it more with the big play, getting to the end zone, beating double and triple teams, yards after the catch etc.

He is no Jarvis Landry, he is Trey Quinn, and I am sure that he is VERY honored just to even be mentioned in the same breath as one of the all time greatest to ever wear the purple and gold.
