I just don't get the love for USC in 2006.
They couldn't beat UCLA with everything on the line. LSU and Florida were the two best teams in the nation that year.
And you might say that LSU couldn't beat Arkansas with everything on the line in 2007, but I don't think LSU was the best team in 2007.

2006 USC was really good, that loss to UCLA was a real head scratcher, the type of thing Miles haters would never stop bitching about if Les had lost a game like that 
2007 Ark was a lot better than that UCLA team and 2007 LSU was the best team that year, just no where near as good as the best team from a lot of other years.

2006 USC wasn't in good form...they wouldn't have done well in a playoff.
The reason for anti-playoff people - like Bama is now - is that usually USC was smoking hot at the end of the year and playing their best.
The old joke was - the only thing keeping USC from winning the title every year - is that they drop a game they shouldn't early in the season...ergo, the Polls.
With a playoff now - you get that mulligan.
It's less a reward for the season, I suppose and simply who is the best - at the end of the year.
But 2006 with Booty injured and playing like crap at the end against UCLA - wasn't going to be much better - probably.

They trashed Arkansas by 36 points in Fayettesville, the same Arkansas team that gave Florida a run for their money in the SEC Championship Game later that year.

they were very up and down that year. shite the bed against a terrible UCLA team, a hallmark of Pete's teams unfortunately. I would put them behind UF and LSU that year. 06 LSU was freaking filthy, I was a big fan of that team.
