Sending them to private school? I know in BR there aren't a lot of options, that's why I want to stay in Auburn.
You don't have to mess with settings but we all do, it's inevitable. Part of pc gaming is we are never satisfied. How do you play fps with a controller though? I tried that for a minute the other night and I had to quit.

Thanks for carrying my newb azz last night. I didn't play that game in so long. Lol
We need to do at less 3-4 runs on D3 tonight.

I say "school" but it's technically a daycare. They do teach them and they have homework also. But, we will be sending them to private school soon (not sure where, yet) and it's going to cost about the same if not a bit more.

Exactly. I've built many PC's and I've done it with every single one. It's, admittedly, part of the fun but so is actually playing the game.

I prefer mouse and keyboard but I can play with a controller just fine too. It just takes practice, just like it did the first time I decided to start playing FPS with a mouse. Like most people, I originally played those early FPS's with strictly keyboard or a very limited gamepad. When a friend told me he heard people were playing them with a mouse back then I was dumbfounded. "Mice are for clicking around the OS. Not for a fast paced game like Doom."

My first fps experience was keyboard only on wolfenstein 3d and doom. Next was quake 2 on kb/m. Now I can't use a controller. When that day inevitably comes, I'm screwed.

No go on the D3 for today. Heading home for a few days to take care of business. Should be back by the 21st though.
Just looked at my screen from the last bench off 8651. Selling that 670 for 300 and buying this 7970 for 325(over a year ago mind you) was the best thing I ever did.

I'll do it when I get home.

That's surprising to me considering you play games like Uncharted. Those are 3rd person but the control schemes are very similar to FPS's.

I'm not crazy about it then. The aim just drives me crazy. Maybe I could do it if I had to. I tried bf3 with my 360 controller so maybe it was the wrong game to try. I may try borderlands just to see.

I've never connected a controller to my PC. There's no need. Mouse and keyboard can do everything.

You're on one side of the extreme

This, of course, greatly depends on what type of games you play.

Let me leave you with this statement.
The man plays Mortal Kombat with KB/M.

I am curious, though, what games need a controller in your opinion. Because I'm wondering if I've played them. A lot of folks seem to insist on using a controller for games like Assassin's Creed, Sleeping Dogs, Grand Theft Auto, Arkham Games, etc., but they are all perfectly natural on mouse and keyboard to me.
I have played a variety of games, and the only ones that felt "off" to me where fighting games -- because I used to play mortal kombat, street fighter, etc. on NES and SNES when I was 5-6 years old, so playing them on keyboard felt unnatural to me at first. But once I remapped a couple of keys, I was right at home. I don't really play fighting games anymore though. I've been nearly an exclusive PC gamer for over 20 years, except for a couple of years playing a lot of N64.
Now, a while back I did install a pirated copy of Dark Souls PTDE, and when I saw the keyboard mapping I was pretty taken aback (I was also drunk when I installed it). I never got around to playing it before reinstalling windows.

You got a deal on that power cooler.
You could sell the 7970 now and buy 2x670s!

No, not for him
Well, the "you" in my statement was more of a general "you." If a person plays platformers, fighters, driving / flying simulations, etc. a control scheme outside of kb/m is going to yield a much better experience.

Let me just clarify. I'm not saying any of these games are impossible to play on a keyboard. There are enough keys on a keyboard to technically accommodate nearly any experience. There are people who can play guitar with their feet. Possible doesn't mean ideal for most people or intended by the designers.
I've played 3rd person games like you mention with kb/m and a gamepad. I think they work equally well, both with pros and cons.
I'm sure MK can be played with the keyboard. I don't doubt you. That will technically work. It just doesn't seem ideal to me, and I've done it before in the past in a crunch. There are some special moves and combos in fighting games that are difficult enough to pull off in the middle of combat with a good arcade stick. I can't imagine doing them with a keyboard. I suspect some would be nigh impossible for most outside of running some sort of script bound to a key.
A side-scroller like "Super Meat Boy," "Spelunky HD," or "Mark of the Ninja" would, again, be technically possible on keyboard but seem designed for a gamepad. "Mark of the Ninja" specifically has you taking advantage of the analog stick. Push it a little to sneak, push it a little more to walk faster, etc.
Driving or flight sims accept analog input as well. Move the stick a little to the right to turn just a little. Push it all the way to turn at max speed. Unless you have an analog keyboard, you're going all or nothing every time you hit the key. Yes, it is possible to play like this, but the fact the game accepts the more gradual input, reveals the designer's intention.
TL,DR: It comes down to personal preference. Technically possible doesn't equal ideal. I can play "Marvel vs Capcom 2" with my Samba de Amigo Maracas if I want to.

Guess it's just a matter of what you're used to. If I was a hardcore fighting game player, I might consider a controller. I agree flight sims are best used with an analog joystick. Haven't played one of those in 15 years.

Yeah, I think so. I have a USB arcade stick I bought for Street Fighter IV for 360. It works just fine on PC, so I use that when I'm playing fighting games, new and old (emulated).
I also have a flight stick from when I played space sims a lot. Whenever I upgrade my PC, I'm sure I'll use it for Star Citizen or similar.
Another game just occurred to me. "Brothers: A Tale of Two Son," which is one of the best games I played this year, requires a gamepad with dual analog sticks. The way the game controls and uses rumble really adds something to the game, imo.
