In lhsaa football, as in many other states, private and public schools have separate playoff and state championship games to make up for the fact that public schools cannot recruit kids out of other districts.
Plenty of public schools do this. All they have to do is get a kid to move into their district and they are eligible right away. Or just give the parent a job at the school and the kid is eligible.

All but one game last year ended in double digit victories
I agree that it is a little watered down, but I was happy to see teams like Kinder and Union win. Especially Union who had lost a player earlier this season. Any other year Union gets beat by Curtis by 45.
The only definitive #1 we couldn't determine was 1A. I would have loved to see Haynesville and Vermilion Catholic play. Both teams were very talented this year. It sucks, but that's me being selfish. VC was able to win in memory of their schools priest who passed away.

Sure. But it's not nearly as common/feasible as a private school offering a scholarship to a kid.

Well a private school kid will have to sit out a year where the publics dont have to. That doesnt make up for it?

In Louisiana it does come into play in football, but not so much in basketball and baseball
Mostly black public schools are better than white private schools at basketball, and a lot of public schools don't care about baseball.
So there probably won't ever be a split of anything other than football.

For the Catholic schools specifically, so long as the school is in the diocese, they don't have to sit out at all.
Sitting out the freshman year to cross the diocese lines doesn't mean much. Unless I'm mistaken, they're only intelligible for varsity competition. They are still allowed to practice and I believe many participate at the freshman/JV level. There's not many people that are going to be big contributors as freshman. It does help level the playing field, but when given the choice 'go to the school you're supposed to go to by the way the lines are drawn or come to this one that we are giving you a scholarship to and you will not have to pay tuition' when you are talking about schools in the same town/zoning, many that are offered the scholarships would take them, pulling from the local public school with no consequence.

Wow, that's interesting. Our public school kids gave to sit out a year unless their parents move into the new district.

Yeah, that's not true at all.

Do you have any proof, whatsoever, of private schools offering scholarships?

It most definitively is in SWLA.

Just anecdotal ones of friends and a family member that were offered.

Apart from the first and maybe 2nd game of the playoffs, how is this system 'watered down?'
how many rounds is the playoffs? 2 rounds out of 4/5 is a significant portion

Nope.
The rule is that every private school as a corresponding public school zone. For instance, if private school A sits within public school Z's zone, then private school A's zone is the same zone as public school Z. Any student who lives in Z's zone and attends A is eligible for varsity sports immediately. Any student who lives outside Z's zone and attends A is ineligible their first year.

Championship = game 5. There are some rather poor teams in the first round that are mostly eliminated by the first week. Is the road to the show or the big event the big deal? There were teams with losing records in the first round of the playoffs back when I was in school, too. A district champ gets an automatic bid, regardless of seed.

Well then you or your friends should turn the school in because that is absolutely a recruiting violation under LHSAA rules.

Hmm. In the area I lived, it was a 15 minute drive to the nearest Catholic school. It was out of diocese and required you to sit out a year. One that was 30 minutes away, however, did not require the year out, as it was part of the diocese. Perhaps leeway is given in more rural areas of the state where private schools are less common?

No. It all depends on the public school district where the private school sits and where the student lives. It has nothing to do with the diocese.

I guess I misunderstood this part. Happen to have a link to anywhere it is spelled out with the individual zones?

if they cut the sport in half, they should cut the seeds in half. it's only logical

No argument. But I don't think the number (on the public side) was quite 'halved.' Regardless, even if you cut the seeds in half, what's the difference between a week of no games and a week of blowouts + potential for upset?
