the Saints have been forced to win more games in different ways than ever this season.

It all adds up to a Coach of the Year-worthy season for Payton. Andy Reid, Ron Rivera, Chip Kelly and Pete Carroll are also strong candidates, and voters might be inclined to reward a coach who hasn't won the honor before.

So Payton might not win the award. But make no mistake, he's never coached better.

He hasn't been infallible. At times he's been the best in the league. At times he's reverted right back his terrible play calling of 07/08.

Thankfully seems like we're on the right track down the stretch

Pete deserves it up to this point. His team looks elite in all 3 phases of the game.

If they can win out, it'll be the third 13-3 season in Payton's last four years on the sidelines, a remarkable feat considering the Saints had never won more than 12 games in any of their first 42 seasons.

Wow, it is great to truly be in the Golden age of Louisiana football.

LSU with two championships in the last ten years. Saints with a Superbowl. Tulane and ULL both playing in bowls. SLU even being decent.

For a local fan of football, these are great times. No Ditkas or Hallmans to ruin your life during the season.

Payton comes back into town and all of a sudden the running game has been more efficient, Brees has been more efficient, the Defense doesn't suck(hired Rob Ryan), and were back into the playoffs.

Only Andy Reid this season to me as had a bigger impact, at least when you look at the records. Pete has done a great job, but that team is stacked and was stacked.
