I just dont see how Malzahn is even remotely in the universe for texas. he is a two year HC with a fluke win over a depleted Georgia team that saved his season
He's a young up and comer who just ran the gauntlet in the hardest division, in the hardest conference, in college football with a team that didn't win an SEC game last year. He can only get so much hotter than he is now. He knows how to get the most out of the talent that he has and also a good recruiter. He has almost all the credential for success at a powerhouse like Texas.

If Saban doesnt take the job, i think it will be Mike Tomlin fwiw
Tomlin? I think this would be a stupid hire but I wouldn't put it past Texas to go after him. He's been out of the college game for over ten years now which seem almost too long.

Extremely likable, decently young black coach with a couple of super bowl rings at Texas. I think he would do some ridiculous things there if he went.

he's really young (41) and the black thing unfortunately works for and against him in Texas.

He could be successful there but will always have the NFL calling him to come back.

I thought so, I was exactly sure how young.
I guess I can see that, but it hasn't seemed to of been an issue for Sumlin.

Yeah this is why I think it would be extremely unlikely

1) if Alabama wins the Iron Bowl and BAMA wins the SECCG then what happens? Saban wouldnt think about Texas with another BCSNCG ahead of him so does Texas keep Mack Brown?
Brown would be done at Texas regardless. Too many highly influencial people want him gone. At best, UT is the 3rd best program in the state right now. That doesn't sit well with anybody affiliated with UT.
Saban's name would be connected to the UT job because thats what the media wants. Prestigous program. Best coach in CFB. Big money boosters at UT. The story writes itself regardless of if there is/was any validitiy to it.
2) if this "deal was done" weeks ago, what would have happened if Texas beat Baylor and won the Big12? Does Mack keep his job?
Maybe, but only for a one-year "last ride"
3) would the "Big Oil" money at Texas have taken care of the Saban financial problems without knowing when the time frame of Saban coming to Texas would develop?
I think this is all BS. Is there anything confirmed that Saban has "financial problems"? And if so, do you really think Alabama doesn't have enough money to pay for said "financial problems"?
4) if Brown is out, Saban turns them down, then what direction does Texas turn? An NFL HC is going to require them waiting into late December (if he isnt in the playoffs - like Tomlin). A NFL HC in the playoffs (Harbaugh brothers) will require them to wait into January.
Lots of big names will be "connected", but I think the eventual hire will be very underwhelming. Coaches are finding that the grass is not always greener somewhere else, and are simply just staying where they're at for big money. Remember, USC just hired a guy who was slightly above average at a Pac 12 rival. I don't think it was because they didn't try to get a bigger name, it's because that was probably the best they could get right now.
