Many very rich people and especially professional players and coaches have been scammed to invest in bad/crooked deals unknowingly. Just because Saban is a great football coach doesn't necessarily mean he is capable of fully analyzing a real estate/business investment opportunity. Not to say he is dumb just not his "area of expertise".

I do find it hard to believe that wealthy UT boosters would assume his liability. If they have or will, wouldn't either Sexton or Saban had to inform them of the situation or has the financial problems been public knowledge along?
