re: All joking aside, if Saban does leave this will look terrible in the public eye.

A 3rd crystal at third different school, toughening up Texas High School to smashmouth again from current diseased 7-on-7 flagball status via trickle-down impression, help stabilize Big12 and Red River Rivalry,etc..
All trump honest comments said prior to Mack Brown's vacating the HC slot..
Everybody loves a winner. Even at 62, it only took LSU four yrs, and Bama three, to cash crystal with CNS..he'll grab at least one in five to seven seasons at Texas.
Even a mere one natty title at Texas via a third program, will hold more legacy clout than if stayed at Bama winning another two or three.

He's finally healed those tarnishes on his national reputation.
there's no reason to think he couldn't do it again.

We aren't debating whether or not a program will take Saban; of course they will. It's his reputation, his credibility, his legacy that could be damaged by another money grab preceded by numerous lies to the fans. Does he want to live through all that again? That's what I'm wondering.
I don't think other programs care anymore at this point. We all know legacy are fleeting, look at Joe Pa.
He could cement the legacy of being the coach that won the most national titles at different schools.
Texas people wouldn't care, they would embrace him and make him feel welcome. The national media would love him like always...
Really the only people that this would look terrible to would be Alabama and only half of it at that, heck, it wouldn't even be like Urban Meyer.
WE KNEW he was a runner, him doing it again would be no surprise.

Either way he gonna frick up Stoops. If he stays in the Sugar Bowl, if he goes in the Big 12.

He's spent seven years trying to live down that comment from when he was at the Dolphins. Now, he has specifically gone out of his way on 60 Minutes, Sportscenter w/ Tom Rinaldi, and FS1 w/ Erin Andrews, and said he wasnt leaving. If he leaves, his legacy and reputation are forever in tatters. He'd be really stupid to do that to himself.
Saban is all about chasing history. If he does it again in Austin, he will become undoubtedly the greatest college coach ever.
ETA: IMO he isn't built to be in one spot for 10 years

quote:Don't be that guy. I guess Auburn backed in to their shot this year. And we all know about LSU 2007. Florida backed in in 2006. If you don't start 1 or 2 and win all of your games, you back in.
He lost to us last year and needed 3 teams to lose on the last weekend of the season in order to get a shot. Do you not watch college football?

He's not necessarily a runner, just loves new challenges, enjoys building programs up more so than merely sustaining them.
Loves the process.
Loves the process.

Do you not? Almost every BCS champion has needed help from other teams losing to make their championship possible.

Any program would take him , he is a guarantee crystal ball machine.
Also, his reputation as a money-grubbing liar isn't based simply on his job switching. College football coaches switch jobs All The fricking Time. And they say general coach-speak stuff All The fricking Time (ie, we're happy here in bumfrickistan, my kids love it here, don't worry recruit #4156B I'll be coaching here next year).
No one really blamed him for leaving LSU (though some LSU fans were upset in the manner that he did so). Everyone knew that LSU was a steppingstone to the NFL, which was supposedly his dream.
The mistake Saban made (the one that tarnished him as being a liar among liars) was 1) giving his 'dream' a measly 2 years and 2) the infamous, "I will not be the head coach at Alabama."
The combination of his cutting and running from the NFL so quickly while dripping with Clintonesque "I did not have sex with that woman" statements is what put a huge dent in Saban's rep. It wasn't *just* that he changed jobs.
If he'd have bolted from Bama after a few years for more $$$, his rep might be just as tarnished. But he's been there for seven years and has won three national titles...and if he moves to another job and says he's seeking a new challenge, it's not going to hurt him nearly as much as his move from Miami to Bama did.

What if you're wrong about Saban? What if he actually likes it at Alabama, and stays there for the rest of his career?
Would your head explode?

Bama fans, I'm not saying he isn't the best coach in the country and I'm not saying he didn't earn those titles. But it's not like he is Ali going undefeated his entire career.

I don't understand how you can slight him. Has anyone been better?
yeah Michael Jordan was good and all, but let's be honest, he could've won 75 games instead of 72 and 8 titles instead of 6.

Rep tarnished how? He won three crystal balls at Alabama, if anything his legacy is cemented.

The shattering of what credibility he has left, what he's tried to repair since leaving Miami, is the only reason I think he might stay. I don't think his ego will let another move tarnish his legacy. I don't believe he likes being branded a liar and a turncoat.
That is so fricking cute. I remember lurking on here as bama courted him. The gumps had ZERO and I mean ZERO concern with morals or appearance.
