Agreed. Move on, and hire Dan Mullen. Grind down the SEC for another generation.

Host: What can you tell us about Nick Saban and his contract situation with Alabama?

Finebaum: I'm told that he has had a contract extension on his desk since last Friday. Now, it's worth remembering he signed an extension in March, but a lot of people have been concerned about these Texas rumors for some time, so the school went to him, up'ed the ante, offered another extension, and Saban has not responded. He's been out, you know, he was on game day on Saturday. He has been recruiting since then. He has not responded, and Alabama officials, I'm told tonight, are getting real uncomfortable with the lack of response.

Host: So do you think this vacillation is real on Saban's part, or he's made up his mind? What do you think are the factors in terms of when that thing will be signed, and what is the ending?

Finebaum: Well, I think you always have to throw an agent into the mix. Jimmy Sexton is his agent. He also represents Jimbo Fisher, who just got a new extension, Gus Malzahn, it kind of goes on from there. Most people think Jimmy Sexton is playing predictable games. This happens every December. However, the Mack Brown story, the way it has been expedited, does concern some Alabama people that maybe Saban is looking at it one more time. The conventional wisdom is, and Saban said a couple weeks ago on he's not leaving. The quote was "I'm too damn old to start over." He told 60 Minutes that he regretted the Miami situation where he said, "I'll never go to Alabama." Most people believe he is going to stay. This is negotiations, but as long as the story is unsettled, Alabama people are growing increasingly nervous.

Bama just needs to hire John Harbaugh and keep the train rolling.

Give him 7mill Bama would be a real dynasty with him as coach

Saban can sign a contract extension tomorrow and bolt for UT the next day bc there is no buyout clause... Which begs the question, if the Sabans really feel this is the last stop in his career, why insist on a no buyout clause?

So is Paul in the know or is he an idiot like everyone (normally) says?

This is Paul crawfishing from his earlier comments claiming Saban isn't going anywhere. He was talking out of his arse. Now he's giving himself an out when Buford calls from Bumfrick, Alabammer and says "Buh Buh Buh Paaauuuulllllll, you saed he fixin ta sahn the contract! Now he gone. You land to us!"

Yep and if I was the brain trust at Bama I would have made my own move ahead of him.he I an under contract and continually holds them hostage as if they don't have 100 years of top notch football success there. The media has created a mythical aura around him that I still don't fully get.

Brain trust at Bama? You're giving those folks way too much credit.

Maybe he doesn't like Tennessee for some reason. Bad grades, perhaps?

Now, he's an Alabama fan with a radio show. He has no credibility with me.

I would doubt that Saban stipulated no buyout clause. That's an area where Sexton would most likely tell him, "we want no buyout clause because it will greatly enhance our ability to leverage pay raises." Then, Saban says, "you're the man, Jimmy. Do what you do best. I'm a football coach. This is your area. I'm onboard for what you think is the way to go."

Saban has had no buyout clause since he came to Alabama. That's a fact.

With all the times Saban has quit and dealt with buyout clauses you don't think he's smart enough to insist on a no buyout clause? Nick has reneged on more contracts than.... well then Terry has when her little business venture at Perkins Rowe went bankrupt.

The point is that Jimmy Sexton has his job so that Nick Saban does not have to worry about "buyout clauses." The truth is that a buyout clause is pretty irrelevant in most contracts. Have you followed the conference realignment? They almost always get negotiated down to a fraction of the cost because it is better to just let a coach/team out of the contract rather than have a person that doesn't want to be there. They may serve as a little bit of a deterrent when it comes to a team targeting a coach, but any program that has their sights on hiring the best coach in college football is not going to be deterred by one. It just doesn't serve much purpose in a situation like this.

With over 22,000 posts, I would think that you would have learned the difference between "then" and "than" by now.

Honestly if I was Bama at this point I would tell him to carry his arse. He shouldn't be able hold the university hostage. Satan isn't the be all end all of coaches. He has had extremely favorable scheduling lost games late in the season and back door ed his way to to bogus championships. Bama may end up being better off with someone else

Maybe you do know the difference. You got it right earlier in the sentence. Maybe you use it both ways just to cover your tracks.
