Agreed. Not a gun you want to just go shoot at the range all day. Not to me at least. I had the stainless/stalker ABolt, so it was fairly light which added to the ("perceived") recoil.

Badass.

I built this little setup for my son when he turned 1. Cooper Firearms Custom, Model 54, 7mm-08, with a Kahles scope.

Impressive.

Of course he's going to have to shoot through the chain of command before he graduates to this rifle. BB gun, pellet gun, .17, .22, 410., 20ga,.....you get my drift.

My current gun setup is near perfect for me: Ruger GSR in 308 win with forward mounted Nikon handgun 2 x 8 scope. Cross hairs zero at 100, circle below it at 200, next one at 300 when sighted with Barnes 165 grain TSX reloads.

Own one - bought it last summer. It's all I've hunted with this fall. I love it. 3 shots, 3 kills.

where did this come from and how does the 7mm-08 compare?
Posted on 12/5/13 at 2:09 pm to Bleeding purple
Completely depends on where I am hunting but for sure one would be a 25-06 Ackley. Other one would be a 7mm STW or 7RUM. If you can get 300 RUM in 150-165 grain bullets maybe that. Both built on Mauser/Rem 700 action.

I don't know yet. I'm not that familiar with the caliber enough to know specific ballistics. I got that caliber because my boy will outgrow a .243 fast. I wanted a round that he could shoot for a few years. 7mm-08 is a hot little round and is pretty flat shooting, but a short distance round from what I have collected.

That bullet is so fast it's scary. I will definitely be switching to 180 grain next time i sight in my rifle.

Not the first individual to comment how gracefully she rolled up for me. Not to completely hijack the thread but it truly is a fine caliber.

I have one as well and love it but for all around deer I'd take a .308 instead.

Not following you... please elaborate. I realize this is not a truly "like" comparison, but in commonly available cartridges the .257 has a higher velocity and more energy.
Caveat: I am not a ballistics expert and also am a proud owner of a .308

I bought this one this week. I mostly hunt the Mississippi public land. A lot of walking and a lot if hills. I wanted something on the lighter side.
