Where would you rank John Hughes on list for best directors/writers?
Notable works:

I almost started putting up Johnathan Landis credits on accident, who has a pretty good resume himself.

I've never seen Ferris Buellet.
I'd say he is king of the 80's teen comedies.

Breakfast Club is one of the all time greats. It transcends eras while still being the best piece that defines the 80s for so many. It along with 16 candles, Weird Science and Ferris Bueller help make John in my opinion a top 10 director of all time. Also his ability to transcend comedy especially in Planes, Trains and Automobiles and making it into an amazingly rich and emotional movie I think is incredible. His future comedies that he wrote and produced were good but never reached that depth. Maybe it was because he wasn't the director, that says a lot too.
Guy also wrote Home Alone and Lampoons Vacation, two of my childhood favorites. So yeah he's GOAT you filthy animals.

I think planes, trains and automobiles is one of my favorite movies ever honestly.

True. It says so much about the pains of adolescence from many different backgrounds.

Hmmmmm . . . maybe. But not quite in Cameron Crowe territory.

Nowhere close to the top.

At the top for white people that were kids in the 80's.
Sorry. Bunch of rich white kids with no real problems acting like they've got it rough. No grit to any of the teen movies. Closest thing to gritty is the bar scene from Weird Science that's an PG Animal House rip off.
I always thought the kids that committed suicide in Plano, TX were cloned from 16 Candles.

To be fair, only one of them was rich and she's called out for that reason. If you're talking about the actors then I see your point.
