Re: Peterson interested?
A week ago, I talked to a close friend of Petersen's who coached with him at BSU and still talks weekly with him. I asked specifically about the USC job when rumors swirled that he was a leading candidate for it.
He told me Petersen never gave it a serious look and had zero interest in it. Said Petersen is unlike any other coach out there in that he's so grounded, money means nothing to him nor does having the opportunity to coach in a BCS conference or compete for national titles every year. He makes 2 mil a year and said that's way more than he can ever spend and adding 5-6 mil a year doesn't do anything for him. He simply coaches because he loves it, not because he has this overwhelming desire to win a BCS title. He also said he has never been around a coach that despises doing interviews or media requests more than Petersen. He said the L.A limelight would drive him crazy.
At BSU, Petersen only does one media appearance a week, closes all practices and tries to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible. When I asked about the feeling that his window of opportunity could be closing at BSU to continue to win big and the USC job might be the last big opportunity he gets, he just laughed and said Petersen truly doesn't care about that at all. He loves what he does, his son is now in HS and the family loves living where they do. He said the only job he would leave for would be Stanford because culturally and socially, he could coach in the same kind of low key atmosphere without the glaring spotlight he despises. Just a FWIW

I'm actually surprised no one has made a serious run at Mendenhall the last few years. He's done some really good things at BYU.
Dude ain't leaving until he's shown the door. He's uber-mormon. Heard from an alum that you have to be a good mormon clergy-type coach to get the HC job. That would be like leaving your position as Pontiff and going to be a southern baptist youth minister.

pretty much tells you everything you need to know about petersen. if he wanted a big job he could have had it by now. props to him for sticking with what makes him happy.

Marques Tuiasosopo was just named the UW interim head coach and will coach the bowl game for UW.

The Seattle Times is reporting that the 2 front runners for the position as of Wednesday night are Doug Nussmeier and Chris Petersen. I initially crossed Petersen off the list, but it looks like he's back in play.

Also there were some rumors today that the UW AD Scott Woodward met with Petersen in Boise today. Nothing confirmed though.

Boise State coach Chris Petersen and Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier appear to have emerged as the top targets in Washington’s search for a new head coach, two sources with knowledge of UW’s process told The Seattle Times.
Petersen, 49, has a 92-12 record in his eighth season at Boise State, with victories in two BCS bowl games. He has been linked to a number of head-coaching jobs in recent years and reportedly was a top candidate at USC before withdrawing his name from consideration earlier this week.

As with every big school job opening around the west coast, Petersen will have “interest" and be considered a front runner but will withdraw his name before UW announces they've hired someone else.

Most likely. I think it will play out how our last one did. Out of nowhere someone will be hired that wasn't even on the radar.

I've a feeling we'll be looking for a new OC this offseason.
Is Cam happy down in BR?

Doesn't surprise me. I never thought he was a realistic chance. He's doing fantastic over in Missouri right now.

Did he have much of a shot at that job back in 09? I knew he probably wasn't going to go to UW now, esp. considering where they're at. Although UW was way more of a dumpster fire in 09 too.

I'm not sure what happened with that search. There were rumors that he declined it I think. Wouldn't surprise me given the state of the program at the time.
Now ESPN Seattle is saying that Petersen is staying put. Jeremy Fowler is saying that UW hasn't even talked to Petersen. How I read into this is that nobody has a clue what happening. I'm still standing firm that it will be a surprise hire that nobody was even talking about.

How would UW fans feel about Nuss?
he seems like a nice guy and a good young coach, but his play calling drove Bama fans crazy sometimes.

I wouldn't mind him under the condition that our current defensive staff stays. The problem with that is our DB coach and LB coach already left to go to USC. The two biggest guys are still left though in Wilcox and Tosh Lupoi, so it would have to happen before they bail too.

@McMurphyESPN Washington scheduled to interview Bama OC Doug Nussmeier today, Boise's Chris Petersen Friday sources told @ESPN

Speculation is that the UW AD is meeting him in Boise at the moment. Flight Tracker
Rumors are the either UW closes the deal on Petersen tonight or tomorrow or we move on and go with Nussmeier.

If I was a ban bettin' man, I'd bet my posting privileges that Petersen backs out. I'll be completely shocked if he leaves Boise.
