Path to victory should we get through the group in 2nd:
Knockout Round: who cares, we are better than every team in group H
Quarters: Probably Argentina
Semis: Probably Spain, maybe England/Italy
Finals: Germany or Brazil

Could be worse though. I'm English. Our group is easier but we're matched up with Spain/Holland's group in the second round. Even if we make through we're fricked.
well I'm American, and making it to the knockout stage is a successful world cup for us. so id have to disagree that advancing is worse than not advancing

I might be in Zagreb or Salona for the first part of the World Cup. If so, I'm teaching the whole country how to hate Mexico.

Worst part of Group A is the fact I'll have to listen to those dumbass Mexican announcers like John Sutcliffe.

I don't keep up with soccer that match, but I do enjoy the World Cup and find myself rooting for the US pretty hard. With that said for the US to get matched with Germany, Portugal, and Ghana is it possible that the US soccer team gets punished for our unpopular foreign policy? I know FIFA has had its issues of corruption before so is this possible? Or just conspiracy talk?

The bloody anus we received from Belgium just over six months disagrees with this assessment.

Ghana is gonna get stomped. Portugal is beatable. And maybe Germany will go to the wrong stadium?
Hahaha so you're telling me there's a chance?
I guess I can save a couple grand now on that World Cup trip I was expecting to take .

We have about a 20% chance of making it out this group.
With that being said, we owe Ghana and I ain't scared of Portugal. That Portugal team has been one of the most underachieving teams when it comes to the WC. The absolute worst case scenario is losing our first match and Portugal beating or getting a point on a tie against Germany. The best case as some have pointed out is us and Germany being locked into the knockout round before we play each other in the last pool match. We don't want to be in a situation where we need a point against Germany or god forbid a win to secure a knockout birth.

The thing with this draw is that we didn't get three or so worst/lesser teams in any of the pots.
I would much rather Portugal than France, Italy, Netherlands, etc.
Obviously we believe we got the toughest or second toughest African team.
Germany is one of the four favorites for the title.
Portugal was middle of the group in terms of difficulty, imo.
I just happen to think Portugal and their speed/strength outside will be problem for us. Defend it well, we should tie or win.

What is the deal with John Sutcliffe? I mean, how does someone so obviously Mexican end up with a name like that? I've tried a few times to find out via Google but no luck.

People in the media with exotic given names go under on-air aliases that are more generic. He's working for an english speaking network, so he goes by an english name.
Chances are his real name is like Juan Santiago or something.
