Here is another way to look at the Sugar Bowl possibilities:

If Bama and FSU make the BCSNGC, then the Sugar gets the 1st and 4th picks among eligible teams.

That list would look something like this:

4 Auburn
5 Missouri
6 Clemson
9 Baylor
10 South Carolina
11 Michigan State
12 Arizona State
13 Oregon
14 Northern Illinois
15 Wisconsin
16 Fresno State
17 LSU

They Sugar Bowl does not take teams coming off a loss (typically). So, the first pick could be Clemson.

Orange Bowl might take Baylor and Oregon.

Why wouldn't the Sugar take LSU in a rematch vs Clemson?

Sugar can't poach an ACC team first without the consent of the Orange.

The Sugar will take an SEC team to replace Alabama. That's a 100% given. They won't be taking Clemson.
