This is something that i've noticed over the last few years in Atlanta at events in Philips Arena and the Ga Dome. Don't know exactly why, but some concerts and sporting events have stopped selling halfway through the night. Saw Sting at Philips a few years ago and sales stopped 1 hour into the Sting performance and there was an opener.

Liability. The idea is to prevent idiots from getting drunk, leaving the venue, and killing someone with their car while intoxicated.
