re: We are going to find out a lot about Les Miles next Saturday vs A&M

I think the A&M game is hugely important for Miles' tenure, but the most important thing isn't what happens on the field, but how well the fans show up.
Clearly, the LSU fan base is divided on Miles, more so than at any point post-Bama 2010. Of course, it shows up here bigger than in reality, because of the nature of all message boards (not a knock on the Rant specifically, just the nature of message boards).
However, if the attendance is down and the crowd is anxious like the Florida game, Miles is probably done in terms of getting back on the top of the mountain.
At any school, a successful coach has to have the full backing of the fans to achieve at the highest level. Historically, LSU fans have been very hesitant to do this, mostly because coaches they have loved ended up bailing on them (Dietzel, Arnsparger, etc.) One of our coaches called it the "Catastrophe Syndrome", that sense that whenever something bad happens, it will inevitably result in a collapse.
If the crowd for the A&M game sucks as much as the crowd for the Florida game, it will show me that Catastrophe Syndrome has moved beyond the Rant and has instilled itself in the general fan base. If that has happened, the big money people will work for a buy-out, with the only question being the timing (now or post-2014).
Back in 2010, the fans were very close to being that divided after the Tennessee game, but the win over Bama righted the ship. This year, there's no game left on the schedule to undo the damage already done.
Yes, the on the field results matter too, but the real story will be whether the fans still believe.

Overall he's an above average coach who recruits well enough but is a less than average game manager, his teams are consistently talented but undisciplined and his best years are behind him.

I sure as hell hope this is NOT true!

Here is his down fall or will b. Several years ago Arkansas was on Houston nutt about getting an good offensive cord- he finally did in hearing Gus , but he could not stand letting some one have control of anything . So Gus moved on Houston got fired, and look at where the 2 r today. We can't argue about the 100 % turn around on offense, but I have heard for years that les wants control of offense, which means to run the ball up the middle . Today's teams r spread offense, read opotion , run it , throw , that's what the fans want . They want to c 5 to. 600 yds a game. Let cam run the offense, or les will not last much longer

Thorny well thought out and stated I agree 100% with your post. To me with how this season has gone and the way we have lost on top of the success from what LSU alumni and fans perceive to be inferior football schools. The A&M game will show all fans exactly what Miles chest is made of. A&M has the better player but we are a better team than A&M with more overall talent and we are playing at home. We should win this game, but if LSU comes out and lays an egg with the same kind of unenthusiastic performance the team played against Ole Piss or Furman etc... we will get beat. And if that happens in my opinion it will show that Miles has lost the players also, they no longer have the faith in what Miles says to them. And if that happens as you put it

Again I hope this is not the case and I hope we win this game, but if we don't to me it is a clear cut case Miles will not get back to the top of the mountain and that is what players, and Miles gets paid way too much money for us not playing for titles on a regular basis. It is all nice and dandy that you get paid a lot but you have to earn that pay also. Alumni, players and fans should demand that we play for titles, not just hope for it to happen

Different way to put it is this:
Who's going to put up $15 million to buy him out if he's delivering 10 wins a year? Even if those those wins will not be against our biggest rivals- Bama, Auburn, Ole Miss, TaM etc?
He's got 8 guaranteed wins against directional schools, piss poor OOC teams, and lower tier SEC schools. Where are the other wins going to come from?

Well for some that understand things a little better than most it won't, but for the general masses hopefully it will.

You are correct if he is winning 10games a year he is here for a lot longer. But if we don't beat A&M and we have a bad match up in the bowl game you are looking at 8-5. The next year with all the early departures coming at the end of this year along with seniors next year is going to be VERY dicey. Let's say we go 9-4 or 8-5 next year and Ole Piss, Auburn and A&M continue to improve, Miles is done. You are right 10wins going forward per year will keep him at LSU, but 8-5 seasons won't.

Yes, I agree. I think this team has the tools to beat A&M in a shoot out. The question is about heart now.

That is what I am saying, it is about heart and pride to be a Tiger and defending your home. Death Valley is our home and no one "especially teams we should beat" should be allowed to come into our home and beat us. If Miles can't drive that home next week and beat A&M, than hopefully it will be an awakening for all. Do I think it will? Well that is the question I guess.
