Why recruiting is so important

Why losing out on high school kids like Cam Robinson, Landon Collins, and any other big recruits that went elsewhere is a big deal even when the Recruiting Board tries to downplay it.

I am really more concerned about the loss of Robinson this year- with the possibility of Collins leaving early, we don't have an elite tackle. He was our only real OT target in La this year, and now we don't seem to have a suitable alternative. To keep up with the Bamas, you can't just settle for a mediocre alternative...

I couldn't agree more.

I often wonder where this mentality comes from. Denial I guess. A player or two can absolutely make a difference. A player like Cam Robinson protecting your qb's backside or roadgrading vs. just another O-lineman is HUGE in the outcome of a game.

Hang on a minute. Isn't Les Miles the best recruiter in the universe? So this begs the questions... do we pay outlandish ticket prices to watch this guy recruit or win CHAMPIONSHIPS?

You have to win the big games for the good recruits to come. We haven't done that lately so why should they?

On the flip side, the incoming guys could see an opportunity to build a great defense, but a 17/18 year old kid wants a winner, not a rebuilding situation.

You can't control what a kid choses.
