Regulations on the second amendment are infringements, period. You acknowledge so much when you attempt to justify "degree[s] to which guns should be regulated."

Interesting to know that you believe your personal feelings on the matter should dictate the fundamental rights of other citizens of this nation. Your logic puts you in good standing with many dictators, monarchs, and politicians that all know what is better for simple peasants.
It was this little gem which prompted me to object to the position that thee should be no regulations. I'm not setting up a straw man. Got no desire to say anything other than we as a society should treat guns as serious as they are.

"And I do believe their fellow citizens, by the specific language of the Second Ammendment, have an equal right to enact regulatory laws requiring them to undergo adequate training and preparation for the responsibility of bearing arms."
The person who wrote this is saying that the State has a right to regulate the bearing of arms. That could easily include within your own home. That is a wide open door to regulate all aspects of gun ownership.

Same song different verse my friend, your personal feelings "that we as a society should treat guns as serious as they are" have no bearing on my individual rights.
If you are willing to trade in your rights for the illusion of personal safety, go right ahead. But don't talk down to the people that actually value personal responsibility and believe our fundamental rights flow from a source other than the consensus of the herd.
For the record, I don't think anyone on this board once said anything about forcibly arming children or allowing convicted felons access to firearms. It is a basic tenant of our society, in full accord with the Constitution, that you may lose your fundamental rights, such as liberty, with due process of law. That is wholly separate from dictating to law-abiding citizens what rights they may have, and to what extent they may have them.

What's sad is that all of these so called defenders of the 2nd got the guy fired because of his belief in the 1st.
Ironic, isn't it?
I agree. And what's really ironic is that on the cover of the edition in which he fires Metcalf, he highlights a Ruger rifle.
Say what you will about Ruger's recent positions, and recent monetary contributions to the NRA. Bill Ruger threw every gun owner in the country under the bus when he supported Bill Clinton's 1994 "high cap" mag and "assault rifle" gun control law.
Guns & Ammo has been a whore to gun advertisers for years -- second only to the NRA publications. The correlation between full page 4 color ads, and primo product placement, is unmistakable and irrefutable.
Never does one of their "reviews" say anything negative about a firearm, to ensure a continued stream of ad revenue. This is understandable -- happens with a lot of gunrags.
But for the editor to climb onto his soapbox and bash the former staff member who simply did his job (writing an opinion piece) is close to being the epitome of hyprocrisy.

The position many of you take is absurd. You want insane people, violent criminals, and convicted felons to be packing concealed weapons. You want kids to be packing concealed weapons. No regulations at all. When the kids play cowboys and indians, they should be able to go to the corner, pick up some Sprite and some live ammo for their games. No regulations at all.
You are about to get burned with this moronic strawman you labored to build. Hyperbole is a crutch for those too stupid to have a worthy opinion on this topic.

The rational discussion is what are society's minimum rules when it comes to instruments of deadly force.
You have to possess a rational mind first and $100 says you are utterly clueless to current Federal and State regulations.

Notice that I have not advocated gun control.
Well you pretty much failed to make any point in that little screed. Let's examine your "little training" requirement. What do you think is an adequate level of training? Do you consider such training a requirement to purchase or possess in the first place or only for CCW? Separate training requirements for rifles vs pistols? Separate training requirements for semi-auto weapons?

It's disgusting that we can't have an intelligent conversation in this country any more without people spewing profanity and taking an extreme stance either right or left
The constant barrage on Rights has facilitated the anger and mentality that exists today. I personally, am of the opinion, not one more law. Not one more piece of legislation. Not one tiny bit of ground should be given up on gun ownership and the ability to purchase, carry and own them. Ther are tens of thousands of gun laws on the books, from outright bans on firearms, to bans on ammunition to bans on carry. Gun owners have been to giving, and too quiet for too long. It's time they push back, it's time they said not one inch more.
