Anyone in this thread who thinks Quarterman is starting over Hickey has lost their mind! Hickey is a top 3 PG in the SEC. He's started the past 2 years and led this team with defense and late game scoring. He may not be a guy that gets drafted too high in the NBA draft if even drafted, but he is a solid college PG.

Lol I guess its just like in football everybody thinks the backup qb should be the starter

Actually, I think it is nothing like quarterback. I think plenty of people have seen over the past two years that the size of our guards has been problematic at times. Quarterman provides a huge size upgrade at that position. It may very well be that Coach Jones would prefer to play Hickey and Stringer a bunch, just not together as often as he has had to do in the past. That would be a non-ridiculous reason to have Quarterman in this lineup.

CJJ is planning to use him at the 3 and with some time at 2 when they have a big lineup.

Not even close. This team isnt going anywhere without AStringer having a big season.

The only good thing about this rumor is that it has fans talking about lsu basketball. But hickey ain't losing his job and people wanted to write off stringer because of his size. Coach Jones response was I like guys that can put the ball in the hole and Andre can certainly do that

So we have 200 minutes per game... May go something like this:
1. Hickey 25 - Quarterman 15
2. Stringer 22 - Morgan 13 - Quarterman 5
3. Martin 15 - Coleman 20 - Hammink 5
4. JOB 20 - Mickey 15 - Martin 5
5. Odo 15 - Malone 15 - JOB 5 - Martin 2 - Mickey 3
Totals:
Hickey 25
JOB 25
Martin 22
Quarterman 20
Coleman 20
Mickey 18
Odo 15
Malone 15
Morgan 13
Hammink 5
Just an idea before the season starts.

2. Stringer 22 - Morgan 13 - Quarterman 5
3. Martin 15 - Coleman 20 - Hammink 5
4. JOB 20 - Mickey 15 - Martin 5

I think you're pretty spot on, but isn't it great that we have this kinda depth and options on the floor... Can't wait to see how much more they use the press now that we have some depth.

15 Minutes of Odo seems high to me. Is he less limited offensively than we have been led to believe. I was under the impression that in terms of the front court, Coach Jones had intimated more small ball lineups. What have you heard, SOS?

This is exactly what I was going to do, but you beat me.
I think it ends more like this.
Totals:
JOB 30
Hickey 25
Stringer 25
Martin 24
Coleman 21
Quarterman 18
Mickey 18
Morgan 14
Odo 12
Malone 8
Hammink 5
I think Coleman gets a few more minutes elsewhere and Malone will not get that much playing time. At least not at the start and not a the 5. I think Malone and Hammink have a lot of room to improve and steal minutes from 3 Js and Coleman (respectively). I wanted to do a range for this, but I was ending up with a number not close to 200.

It's the lineup for the first game. While Odo isn't much of a threat offensively, he can still dunk, layup, and put-back. While Mickey has likely pushed Odo down a bit (as the shot blocker in the paint), he'll still get good minutes.

Fouls keep job under 30 min per game.
Malone is the truth.

Without a doubt he will play a key role. Beyond just his offensive penchant, my question about whether 15 minutes are high for him is more directly related to Coach Jones seeming to indicate a small ball preference, in conjunction with my lack of knowledge about how this specific 6'10", classic center type fits in with Coach Jones' desire to run and press.

Odo is athletic. I'm sure he can run up and down the court for 5 minutes before being relieved.

He averaged 29.1 last year despite being hurt and being the focus last year. With his lost weight and less frequent double teams, he'll won't have as many fatigue fouls. Also only fouled out 3 times in SEC play (with one of them coming in OT).

I'm cheering for him too. I just don't think he'll get that many minutes at the 5. That said, I think he more than anyone else will get more time as the season goes on.

With this kind of depth and athleticism, how much full and half-court pressure should we expect to see?

Have you looked at the minutes last year? Hickey averaged 33/game! There were several where he had 35+, including a few 39 minute games.
Don't remember him being tired all that often.

Good to hear. I know that the Tuba (different class of player clearly) and the gimpy JOBIII struggled to keep up when Coach Jones asked his players to go to the full court, high pressure defense. With 10 legit guys, this system will be awfully dangerous if you don't have great guard play and lots of them.

JOB was for forced to play due to no depth. He played 50+ minutes in that triple OT game... No way he averages more time than last year.
Posted on 10/31/13 at 6:05 pm to SouthOfSouth
Correct. With more talents and more depth comes less minutes to go around. JOB will not average 30 minutes a game. We don't want him to have to play that much if he can be effective in those minutes. Hickey wil average less minutes as well

His average is where it is because of his injury and conditioning. With the reports of him losing weight and moving more, I think we'll see a lot of effort to get both JOB and Jarell on the court at the same time.
Last year obviously was not a normal year and it'll be interesting how he manages the team with so many parts to play with.
