Rice and Johnson are very different receivers. Rice routinely turned 8 yard slants into 40 yard gains. CJ can out duel double teams on jump balls.

Rice maximized every gift he had through hard work, CJ is a natural.

I think it's a case of the physical evolution of the league. If you sent a mid-level modern LT back in time 30 years, he'd be a more effective blocker than Anthony Munoz. Does than make him "better" than Munoz?

Calvin Johnson is more physically evolved than Rice and plays against corners who are faster, more agile, and hit harder, but Rice was better relative to the game of the time.

Also Rice said that he was never that great of an athlete compared to everyone else. He said that he great bc he ran great routes. From Jerry rice himself

Yet Megatron is much faster than Rice. The more you know......

I do agree Megatron is a completely different receiver than Rice. Rice relied on his incredible route running and hands. Megatron relies on his ridiculous mixture of speed and size. Rice played with 2 of the best qbs ever throwing to him and Megatron is in an offense that throws a lot. There is too many unknowns to clearly say 1 is clearly better than the other.

It pains me to say this, because Rice is my favorite player of all time, but if I had to choose 1 to build my team around, I'm taking Megatron. You could teach catching and routing running, you can't teach size and speed.
