Has anybody ever polled American Indians about "The Redskins"?

Haven't seen any input from this group. Is the name change issue just PC motivated with no practical thought?

I know a couple, they couldn't care less about the Redskins' name.

Yep. The Native Americans think they suck too.

I assume from the way you address them in the subject title that you have already decided what you think they think.

Better question is this: why are so many white people ANGRY at the thought of changing that name?

They are American Indians, there is nothing racist about that term.

Indians (for Native Americans) isn't a racist term, it's just stupid. It doesn't make any sense. It'd be like calling black people Ukrainian. That's why I don't use it.

"According to a 1995 U.S. Census Bureau set of home interviews, most of the respondents with an expressed preference refer to themselves as "American Indians" or simply "Indians"; this term has been adopted by major newspapers and some academic groups..."

Except that Columbus didn't mistake Angola for Crimea.

Hey, if Mexicans wanna call themselves Australians that's fine too. Doesn't mean it makes sense.

Right. And we're still repeating Columbus's mistake 600 years later. Why?
Posted on 10/29/13 at 1:22 pm to genro
Just because some of them are 'ok' with it doesn't automatically justify it.

For me personally, economy of language. It's quicker to type and say indian instead of native american.
