Understand your point, but right now in college football, there is only 1 elite coach and he is on the sidelines in Tuscaloosa.
Urban Meyer has done very well as a coach when he had a supreme collegiate athlete like Tebow and Braxton Miller. When he doesn't have those special typ QBs, he's a 8-4, 9-3 coach. Lastly, Fisher isn't remotely close to being an elite coach. He's had the most talent of the ACC teams since he's been the headcoach and is 31-10 through his first 3 full years, again 10-3 team, not elite.
Th reality is every good coach is going to have up years and down years and in the SEC schedule makes a huge difference. If we could play Kentucky and Tennessee as our only East teams we are going to look really strong. Look at 2012. Ignoring the OOC schedule, we got Florida on a down year and Kentucky from the East and what do you know? Undefeated season.
As a collegiate program, you have to look at trend analysis to see where your program stacks up nationally. LSU is staying at the elite level of CFB programs with Miles at the helm and have done so consistently, which is extremely hard to do. He deserves credit for that.
Right now (in my opinion):
Elite: Saban
2nd Teir: Meyer, Miles, Kelly(when he was at Oregon)
3rd Tier: Stoops, Fisher, Shaw, Richt

Fisher completely turned around a program heading for the garbage bin, has the highest win % in ACC history (over Bobby), consistently brings in top recruiting classes, has won a BCS game, and has his team ready to compete for a title this year.
Fisher not an elite coach? Yeah, that's a joke.
eta: And he's only had five first rounders in three years.
