I see all kinds of talk on here about how this kid is going to be great. Insiders, what makes this kid special? Does he have what it takes to lead LSU to the promise land? We might get a good look at Jennings this Saturday, what should we expect other than hand offs?

Thanks

By all accounts, he's a smart kid with a good arm and he's mobile. He picks things up quickly. He passed up a guy that has been here for 3 years, in his first year. That should tell you enough.

I'm expecting him to play some and throw.

He's the backup QB.

From my introductory Jennings thread on the RB:
quote:

Pros: Gifted athlete; quick release; strong arm; nice accuracy and touch on the ball; can throw a fade, can also rifle it; makes some really difficult quality throws to the sideline; great field vision and ability to see the field; reads his receivers well and anticipates when they will break and get open before they actually do and hits them in stride; will not panic under rush; keeps scanning the field and moving around to find the open receiver rather than just taking off when the pocket breaks down; poacher - takes what the defense gives him; makes things look easy; good runner with shiftiness and balance; decent speed - posted 40 may be generous but he is fast enough; posted size looks legit; senses pressure, avoids rush and tackles like a boss; can throw on the run; good, quick football instincts.

Cons: Not many; plays out of shotgun most of time so you don't know for sure how comfortable he is playing under center; footwork - has happy feet sometimes and throws without setting or stepping into passes - his arm strength is good so he gets away with it in HS.

Bottom Line: I really like this guy. He is good...very good. I also like Riley Ferguson but Jennings may be the best QB still out there for LSU.

Most posters liked what they saw. Though his ability was questioned and I was accused of pushing him only because he is from GA.

Quiet guy, focused, determined, disciplined.

This is Rivers' 3rd year, but regardless I am looking forward to seeing what he can do with a whole off season to work with Cameron. Mett has all the tools, but clearly Cam got him going this year. Really excited to see what Cam can do with a young kid through his career at LSU.

Ok, better than jerking it to a kid half my age.

the backup QB is always the most popular player on team. it's mind boggling after the first half of season that mett had, he has one bad game (he was a huge part of why we lost but he was also a huge part of how we came back) and we're moving on to AJ.

i'm looking fwd to seeing him play. he's gonna take his lumps but from all accounts he seems like a good kid and a hardworker.

I still think Mett is our best quarterback by far but it would be nice to see a little preview of the the future QB in garbage time.

Here's where LSU fails. Want some asses in the seats for Furman? Announce that Jennings plays a half. I'm going just in the off chance he plays more than 2 series

He hasn't come close to the field all season. Why would you burn his red shirt to play in this game?

I think for a lot of folks, it's not about giving up on Mett but about looking at the QB for next year. Primarily because most think (rightly, IMO) that LSU will not be in competition for a NC, SEC or even SEC west title. Mett is still our best hope at QB for winning out the rest of the season, a tough task at best.

I'm with u, Les's famous about starting the next season with an untested freshman. Shades of JJ!
