I would like to remind everyone that had ole miss not given up the ball to us on several turnovers late in the game that our near comeback would have not happened. Those interceptions occurred after we were behind and after we had already failed multiple times to run the ball.
I noticed the philosophical change after we took an early lead against Auburn. We tried to start milking the clock and then struggled to go back to passing offense. We were very fortunate that we were able to reestablish an aggressive offense after the first half versus auburn.
its not just play calling, its a mindset. Our defense came out great against ole miss, but when our offense failed to establish an early lead, ole miss had time to make adjustments AND remain balanced.
When you're a 22 yo QB and your down to ole miss before your coach even starts to call aggressive routes, you're gonna go for the deep route because you're pissed your down to an inferior opponent.
I do not blame our defense that much because they gave us the opportunity early to make ole miss give up. I commend chavis for bringing many db blitzes in this game. There were times when Wallace just made great plays. That last drive was from a rested, full strength offense that had nothing to lose.
I will say this about our defense, our dts do not get pressure. It looked to me almost as if they were keeping the inside lanes closed instead of pass rushing which leads me to believe chavis does not have enough confidence to spy with an lb.
