Richard Sherman: Patrick Peterson is a way better athlete than me

Figured the Rantards needed some positivity today since the "gameday experience" meltdown that has been happening all week.

“He’s a way better athlete than I am,” Sherman said. “He moves better and he’s faster. He has so much speed that it allows him to play a little differently than I do. I have to play straight technical football. He gets to play a little looser because he can recover in a flash and get back in a play.”

A better athlete just not a better cornerback

Not sure most would argue this. He's a freak athlete.

they're basically the same age, right? maybe bc he's a "better" athlete, PP21 has a higher ceiling, no?

Sherman is unquestionably better right now. But...

PP could have a better career, i'm just speaking in present tense.

Peterson is great but Megatron had his number.

Correct. If his only leg up is technique then peterson most definitely has the leg up down the road. Technique can make a lesser talented player better though. Use trey Quinn for example.
Not saying Trey isn't talented, but his route running and technique sets him apart from most.

I enjoy that the go to NFL trope regarding DB play is whether you can stop Megatron. He's the best in the goddamn world. No one can stop him when healthy.

The only person on the planet that I would give a chance to stop Calvin Johnson when healthy is a clone of Calvin Johnson playing defensive back

1 thing I like about Sherman is that he is honest. Sure he talks a bunch but he backs up everything he says.
PP and Sherman are 2 of the top CBs in the game today. Joe Haden is playing exceptional football and Talib has arguably been the best shadow CB in the game this season. All 4 are great.
And Sherman knows hes not near the athlete that PP is, so he has to do the little things better than PP does. Which is why I think Sherman has topped out. Yea hes topped out as 1 of the best CBs in the game, but I dont see him getting that much better. Every year PP improves enough to where you can see it on the field. I think PP is just starting his climb to the top as the best CB in the NFL.
Thats where PP differs from Sherman, Haden, Talib, etc. He still has room to get better and get to that next level. In the next 3-5 years the best CB in the game will go PP, Haden, Sherman, etc. In that order.

Him and JG. Uncoverable with that size and speed.

Calvin Johnson prime would still defeat Calvin Johnson defender because prime would know the route from the beginning giving him the slightest of advantages. So not even Calvatron can stop Calvatron.

Yea. My fantasy team, which lost by 0.8 in a PPR league, is in agreement that Jimmy Graham can indeed be covered.

Lets not forget guys like Revis, Verner, and Flowers in this discussion of top NFL corners.
