Why should he give a fighter (Duran) an immediate rematch after Duran just quit in the middle of the fight?
And make no mistake, Duran beat SRL in Montreal but I would in now way say Duran kick his arse. That was a super competitive close fight that SRL lost, fighting Duran's style at that.
I wouldn't say he "stole" the Hagler fight either. It was a close fight (btw I thought Hagler won the fight by a round or 2). Still, I could see how a judge scored it for SRL.

I'm no SRL apologist. But, I don't think SRL ducked anyone. Dude fought some of the best ever. SRL was a GREAT fighter. Duran was a GREAT fighter.

It isn't even up for debate. He refused Hagler a rematch when Hagler desperately wanted one. In the documentary he admitted to ducking Duran for years as well.

And he played to Duran's strengths by fighting Duran's style to appease his critics.

And it was still close playing Duran's game.

When Sugar Ray fought his own fight, he dominated.
