My kids love it and it is definitely a good idea IMO. If you don't have a 3/4 or 1 ton truck i wouldn't get a 5th wheel and would look at bumper pull travel trailers. I started out with a 29' Spree travel trailer and sold it and upgraded to a 32' 5th wheel. The 5th wheel is much easier to hook up to and pulls much better plus the room inside is great. They do have more quality control issues than boats in my experience and no matter how much you spend there will always be something minor wrong with the trailer. As far as low budget vacations rv's can't be beat. Most state parks are $26/night so it is definitely cheap and it is better than a camp in that you can pick a different destination every weekend. If you have the room and the funds i would invest in a structure to park under as it will save the roof of your RV and keep it looking nice. Only real issues i have faced are blow outs the tires they sell them with are junk. I would go to berry land and dixie off of I-12 and walk through all of them to find what fits your needs the best.
