If there was a market for these players to get paid to play football, someone would create a league and hire them.
But nobody has done that.
Because they are not worth it.
They are welcome to start their own league and prove me wrong.

In basketball, must of these guys aren't ready to be pro mentally or physically either.
The NBA/NFL shouldn't give a shite. They are going to do whats best for their leagues.

So effectively, these colleges are pushing to give up tons of money? Yeah, right. If they weren't a minor league for football, they wouldn't be make oodles of money. Nobody is going to see SEC games with bunch of jc talent.

but if they can declare for the draft at any time then they can't complain about not being paid.
Exactly. And the NCAA would no longer have to govern sports agents contacting college athletes. If there is no NFL teams looking at the player then an agent wouldn't bother with them. But if NFL is interested, then the kid isn't going to college anyway

Let's say all of the top high school football players went to a NFL farm league instead of college. I think it would officially kill college football. I know i would rather watch the NFL farm league over a bunch of lesser talent in college football.

this, plus they can go the JC route

Can you imagine a 26 year old man tackling a 19 year old kid? He would break in half. This is pretty idiotic.
Oh this idea came from Jim Delaney? No fricking wonder.

this is either a move to try and get money from the pros
This is what I think.
I do find it peculiar that the commissioners of the shittier conferences with lesser athletes (B1G and Big 12) are for this. I think they believe that it would help even things out between the SEC and B1g and Big 12.

Personally I like the college baseball rules. You can go straight from high school but if you go to college you have stay for a certain amount of time before draft eligible.

The jump from high school to college is so vast. Can anyone imagine the jump from 5A High School football to the NFL?

The reason the NCAA is profitable as a minor league is because you have built in allegiances due to the colleges and universities. Some random minor league football team would draw no one and would be ignored and unprofitable.

Can you imagine someone drafting a senior QB fresh out of high school with the #1 pick.
Mel Kiper at the draft talking about the pros and cons of the kid:
"Well he's prone to skipping class and sometimes doesn't do his homework. Also doesnt pay for his lunch."

People do it every weekend in the Big Ten, why do you think the SEC would be any different?

It would kill college football because of the talent drop off.

It's just a PR move to make it seem like the BIg Ten is this mecca of pure college athletics
I agree with this. He's good at being full of hot air. Delany likes the way college football is right now.

Basis for this movement is: Big10 and others think the SEC plays with a bunch of kids who are not really students. That their kids are smart enough to go to college and ours are not. Thus they say it's unfair because this is suppose to be college athletics.

I think Delaney is right (for once).
He knows that its the NCAA and its structure that makes kids like Johnny Football marketable, NOT JFF's unique talent.
How much is JFF's autograph worth if he is playing for the Omaha Hawks, a farm team for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The NFL uses age discrimination to, in effect, use college football as a cost free minor league system. If you take away the age restriction, what is the problem? 18 year olds aren't ready for the NFL? OK, then don't draft them. A 57 year old Joe Montana is not physically fit to play in the NFL, but there is no need to implement a rule setting an age ceiling on NFL players.

It would kill college athletics. But hey look on the bright side, no more title IX. It would regress back to Harvard and Yale days. They might actually be relevant again lol. Now we will see all that all these parents are full of shite when they say "I just want my child to get the best education". But these minor league teams won't be able to afford a lot. Plus then these kids who go to the minor leagues will have to actually pay for their shite. Food, shelter, clothes, etc. Once the minors realize that that 5 star ain't worth a shite, bam, he's cut. Then what? No money, no scholarship and no more boosters paying them cuz if they stop then that kid who use to be a 5 star who's now a bust, will rat them and the school out. Ain't gonna work. Matter of fact some of these minor league kids will find themselves getting paid less then when they were in college lol. Once you fail in the minors, you can't go back to college, and the pros don't want you. Now you are arena material or for god sakes Canadian league, and no one wants to live in Canada except dirty hippies lol.
