Just want your honest opinion....Will they get better, will Chavis work some magic? Or will they stay as is which will probably equal a 9-3 or 10-2 season.....

They will improve, but they still will be below average.

I said it before... natural instincts and ability to locate the ball in the air is hard to teach. What they can improve on is learning where to be. Forget that our playmaking ability is not good, we dont even know our assignments. I have never seen a group of DB's at LSU so totally clueless of what coverage we are in and where they are supposed to be.

Yelling at each other after every play and agruing who was supposed to be where...

I have never been a negatiger, but I could not believe all of the confusion in the part of the DBs.They looked like they were still learning coverage schemes, technique was sorely lacking. Prime example, Losten needs to know that when you try to divert a receiver with a bump, you have to BUMP him, not brush by him and give him 3 steps on you and a TD.
If anyone can fix it it's the Chief, but he'd better work nights!

probably, but it's hard for me to tell if our woes are due to talent issues or inexperience. it could be both. the most disconcerting thing to me is how soft our DL is and our sr. safety seems to make zero plays. 5 star bust. he might as well get hurt again.

Yes if they bench Eugene. Dandydon.com show video of DB play and twice Eugene was looking inside as the receiver ran past him for a score

I think they'll settle to be around a 40th ranked D because we don't have cupcakes anymore to boost our numbers.

That puts this D slightly worse than 08.

No depth at DT (poor recruiging), no depth at Safety (Bama took Collins), and young CBs = bad defense.

Plus, the CBs we do have, we badly evaluated on. Mills and Collins are not sec caliber and don't even have SEC speed.

The DEs are average at best.

Chavis is gonna have two choices. Keep playing zone and hope some players start to get it, or blitz like crazy and give up the big plays, but get turnovers also.

I say we pull a '09 saints playbook and blitz like crazy on D to get turnovers. Sure, we'll give up some big plays, but it's better than sitting back and slowly getting raped every drive.

I agree it was ugly, and they need to be told to hold the yelling as it only shows the other team that they're in your head.

But we can't forget that we were tested for the 1st time this season by a championship caliber offense, and almost pulled it off. Our players have the talent, and Chief has the coaching ability. He will show them the video and they will improve steadily all season.

This is just a little choppy water--hold on to your hat and ride it out, tigerfans.

No reason to think so at this point.

Some way we need to generate more pressure. I'm all for Hunter getting more PT at either end spot. Lacoture needs to be given a chance at DT. Slide Barrow to the inside and have Kwon and Deion jones start at OLB. At least this will add more speed and agressiveness on the D possibly a better pash rush. Also they raved about Rickey Jefferson's ballhawking ability in spring. Give him a chance at safety.

they will improve somewhat, but I doubt we see this team switch to a gambling, blitzing style of defense which it seems most of us would prefer, rather than the slow death of giving up 10 yards per play.

I think the staff named their poison this year, and will try to improve that. I'm going to quit wishing for something I won't get and try to enjoy the season as it is.

I am almost 100% positive that the D will get better.

1. The defensive performance against Georgia was devoid of almost any redeeming characteristic. This leaves plenty of room to improve.

2. Many of the problems (though not all) had to do with poor angles and blown assignments. These are absolutely, coachable, fixable things. It doesn't necessarily mean you will make the play, but it will prevent you from watching receivers catch TD's with NO ONE near them.

3. While not an excuse, it is a fact that the D is young. Young players typically improve as they play more. I suspect that to happen with this bunch.

I am REALLY glad we play A&M later in the season.

People, Georgia did had more yards on Clemson and South Carolina. we need to give the younger cats like Jefferson, Raymond, Holmes, Etc. Former LSU recruit Eddie Jackson is now starting for Bama after their defensive collapse against the aggies.

Honest reply=negaTiger? Have to get better. Only way is up. However, with 40+% of the season completed, "Chavis is going to coach them up" is sounding like whistling while walking past the graveyard. Time is shrinking quickly to make the kinds of needed improvements evident over last five games. Meanwhile opponents' offensive coordinators are looking at film and likckig their chops. Losses to Ole Miss, A&M and Alabama possible unless we simply outscore all of them in track meets.

Couldn't agree more. The lack of the outside blitz is what kills us everytime we are up at the end of the game. 3rd and Chavis has some credibility now

They'll definitely improve, but so will every other team that has young players. That's why LSU will still lose to Bama and either Ole Miss or ATM and end up 9-3.
