Makes sense since those of us who grew up there called Farmerville "The Ville". We like shortening things up and putting "The" in front of it so no one confuses us with lesser towns.
"The U" is a hell of a lot better than "The Fighting Farmers" even though the team had a reputation for fighting when I made my bones there back in the 70's.

I actually played a little softball with guys from there and that was the name of the team.
