Can you be specific? What did he do? How did he act?
I have heard Archie being interviewed many times over the years that this sons have been in the NFL. Archie supports his sons by attending their games and talking them up in interviews.
With regard to the Saints, Archie never attends games, or makes any personal appearances featuring him as a Saint. During interviews, of course, he does not bash the Saints, but, it is evident to me that his past as a Saint is not a topic that he likes to discuss in interviews. He never brings up the Saints, has never bragged about the Saints, etc.
Archie sees the Saints as a part of his own personal ancient history, IMHO. Archie self-identifies as Peyton and Eli's Dad, and not at all as a "Saints Hero" or whatever we'd like to call it.
During the Saints-Colts Superbowl Week, can anybody recall Archie saying "I hope my son's team wins, but, it would also be awesome if my old team and their fans won a Superbowl." Because, my recollection is that he never got anywhere close to saying anything like that.
Archie is not "anti-Saint" but, he is "non-Saint" in every way now.
My overall impression after observing Archie for many years now is that he would prefer to talk about any football topic other than the Saints or his time with the Saints.
I guess Archie is a winner and a competitor. Maybe he doesn't like to talk about his time with the Saints because there was a lot of losing going on.

Archie as a very biased (pro-saints) radio announcer with Henderson, until he said he wanted to stop until his son's finished playing so he could watch them.

He stated he was in a very uncomfortable position. Of course he's not going to say it would be nice of the Saints win, because that means his son loses. He knows the media would have run with that. He did come very close in pumping up the Saints by saying the Saints were his third favorite team. By the way, the Colts are no longer one of his favorite teams. I can guarantee that when his son's retire, the Saints will again be his #1 team.
Archie has and never will be about self-promotion, even after leaving Ole Miss, where is was a god. That's not him.

I hope that you are proved correct about all of this !
I like Archie Manning, and, it will be great to see him comfy in the role of a proud Saint and prominent member of the Saints Hall of Fame.
It would be great if Archie got his own radio sportstalk show one day. I'd enjoy hearing him talk about football on a regular basis.

I absolutely know that no QB, Drew included, could have taken them to the Super Bowl , or even the playoffs.

Can you post a link to one instance where someone suggested that Brees would have one a Super Bowl in the era Archie played?

Made up? You are ignorant of what he said.
quote:
NEW YORK — With the Saints and Colts both undefeated, Archie Manning keeps hearing the question: Who would he root for in a Super Bowl between his old team and his son's club?
The answer is easy for the former New Orleans quarterback. As Manning says, "The Saints are third on my list." Tied for first, of course, are the squads quarterbacked by his sons, Peyton's Indianapolis Colts and Eli's New York Giants.

You are welcome.
also:
quote:
“It’s a game I’m going to pull for my son,” the elder Manning said, according to the report.
“[Saints coach] Sean Payton knows that. He’s a great friend of mine,” Manning said. “[Saints quarterback] Drew Brees knows that. That’s just the way it is.
“Anybody who thinks it’s different must not have children.”

what a douche he must be.

and
what a douche the Manning patriarch is.
LINK
quote:
"I was thinking especially about the guys who are gone, guys who passed away such as Del Williams and Al Dodd, who never even got to enjoy this. I know they would have been really excited and happy."
Manning was also thinking how much it meant to his battered town, New Orleans, the one he and his family have been helping for years.
"You know the city deserves this, after all we've been through, " he said.
"I know Sean (Payton) and Drew (Brees) and other guys out there, and I really like them and respect what they've done -- not just with the team, but with the city. They're good people, and I was really, really happy for them.
"And to tell you the truth, I wasn't surprised. I thought they were the best team (in the NFC) all year. And I thought they'd beat the Vikings.
"When that kick went through, I was just thrilled. That's what I was thinking about."
what a douche the Manning patriarch is.

I said to get ready for those comments. It was an exaggeration meant to point out that when someone speaks highly of Archie or Peyton, some here take it as an insult to drew. With that being said, there probably are a small few Drewtards that actually believe it.
